Nascence

Days are short
Time is too
Of great import?
To start anew

For every dawn
Is such a gift
Before we’re drawn
Across the rift.

Chill

Is global warming such a bad thing;
To go outside and not feel the sting
Of air that takes your breath away?
Well I, for one, hope it’s here to stay
And no new tax will ever bring
Relief, so knock it off, today!

Preoccupied

I’ve stuttered the insane
And muttered the profane
And uttered words without a clue
That caused another pain

I’ve sputtered in the mire
And shuttered up desire
And buttered bread for people who
Would rather I retire

I've cluttered my own mind
And fluttered for a dime
And puttered (quite distracted) through
My time in search of rhyme.

Veto

Those who contribute the least
Get the most
Those who worship the beast
Curse the ghost
Those who coddle the weak
Are replaced
Those who manage the meek
Lie straight faced
We who relish the facts
Must reject
The vile and traitorous acts
Of the elect.

Cut Down to Size

I sliced my knuckle
Trimming some pork
And had to chuckle
I’m such a dork

And I won’t grumble
If I do it once more
But humbly mumble
That’s what glasses are for.

Perishable

Once you try spice
You may understand
A mild life is nice
But ultimately bland—

Proceed to drink wine
Till it runs down your chin
You start feeling fine
With the excess of sin—

Begin to inhale
Black smoke from the fire
That torches the frail
You just might expire.

Metanoia

The Spirit makes us whole
But still we repudiate
The essence of our soul
In order to invalidate
What we see as control
Not a Father’s love so great
He’s focused on one goal:
Children who proliferate.

Merry Christmas to all who observe, and to those who don’t, may peace be with you ❤️.

Cultivate

Yelling into an empty room?
Stop with all the gloom and doom
And soon you’ll smell the sweet perfume
Of hope as it begins to bloom

On stalks the sun will help to grow
That push their way up through the snow
And soon (perhaps) some ears will show
It all depends on what you sow.

Poet Enough

Prospecting? Don’t forget your pick:

You chose to look for treasure in your life,

Focusing on dreariness will only make you sick

Always seek the priceless midst the strife,

And once bedazzled by that gleam

Things are seldom as bad as they seem.

Silent Nights

The shrew has hushed its shameful shriek
Once the axe refused to ring
In the forest there is peace for the meek
As long as they don’t ever sing.

Thursday, December 21, 2023

Yule-ogy

Dress the halls
And deck the bird
Wait a minute
That’s absurd
But so is
Every other rite
Like silent bells
And jingle night.

Wednesday, December 20, 2023

Look Up

May ALL who read this reach some type of peace
And may whatever pain you’re feeling cease,
Regardless what you practice or believe
I hope success becomes what you achieve.
In this uncertain world it’s nice to know
Not everyone is heartless to your woe
And while there’s not a lot that I can do
Please realize at least this much is true:
My greatest wish is that we somehow find
A way to coexist without the need
To always keep defenses well maintained;
If only we could elevate our kind
Above those who prey versus those who bleed
Imagine what new heights could be attained.

Charmer

The non-productive
Become politicians
The non-dramatic
Perhaps morticians
The non-specific
Fill various positions
And then there are poets—
The word magicians.

Christening

Rivers get high
Though Mercury’s low
The buzz is about why
When it should be snow

Is it the earth
Or merely a trend
Or maybe the birth
Of a new way my friend?

Sunday, December 17, 2023

Unaffiliated

I threw some crusts upon the grass
A cardinal and blue jay broke their fast
Unconcerned who was blue or red
They simply shared, and both were fed.

Saturday, December 16, 2023

Scratch

Your cue careens, then it drops
Into the pocket, your heart stops,
Another blank that you can’t take,
Your itch has turned into an ache
But long ago you lost your chops
How long before you finally break?

Friday, December 15, 2023

Allocation

Our memories used to be tangible
With albums of photos and such
And now everything is digital
Deleted with one careless touch,
Is anything we see or feel
Even virtually real
Or simply space they will reclaim
For the mighty mainframe?

Thursday, December 14, 2023

Stuck

We can’t be cohesive
Without the adhesive
Called love to strengthen the bond

But prideful resentment
Prevents true attachment
A mess that we must move beyond.

Wednesday, December 13, 2023

Chafing

When cooking up lies
You have to stay cool
Or tuna surprise
YOU get served fool!

Tuesday, December 12, 2023

Swing State

Some of these nuts, if they worked for me
Would not be employed very long
But we just allow them to spout each decree
As they steadily stifle the throng,
The severance for traitors? A tall sturdy tree
And a rope that is equally strong.

Fitness

Work against the weight of woe

Your heart is bound to grow,

Lift yourself beyond lament

Out-muscle the malevolent—

Whatever burdens bend you low

The One who spots you loves you so

And His strength will not relent.

Sunday, December 10, 2023

Softie

I never wanted to be the one
The boss calls Old Reliable
And though I’d rather be having fun
It seems I’m much too pliable.

Saturday, December 09, 2023

Contemporizing

How do you learn
To truly care
For those who wronged you so?

Your innards churn
With every stare
Of arrogance they show

But can you spurn
The urge to flare?
I guess I’ll let you know.

Friday, December 08, 2023

Beacon

The key is light
When shades of night
Are overshadowing love
Dispel the fright
By shining bright
Just like The Son above.

Thursday, December 07, 2023

Good Spirits

Can you get your fill of good will?
Not if your heart is beating still
For unconditional love is like
Sweet wine you gladly swill
But as with most things for which we wait
It flows the more we reciprocate.

Wednesday, December 06, 2023

Shades of Night

The tired sun falls behind
In its race across the sky
Subtle reds and somber purples
Dance before your eyes

Soon an orb of silvery white
Is borne unto the heavens
Darkness swallows its liquid glow
Nighttime has descended

Nocturnal vision glowing amber
A hunter seeking prey
The flap of wings guiding death
Shows nature’s violent way

Blackness blankets everything
The soul of Man included
One day, night may never leave
The light of hope extinguished.

Designation

THEY
are those
who feed on woes,
that charge for heat
and pray it snows,
that strip the meek
then sell the bones
and snidely tell us,
So it goes.

WE
are they
on whom THEY prey
that hope for grace
when we can’t pay,
that watch our dreams
get worn away,
it’s time to say
WE won’t obey!

Monday, December 04, 2023

Informant

The perfect crime will never be
For everywhere are eyes that see
And cells employed will make the guilty
A victim of their own device

So if you feel an evil itch
Remember to depress the switch
For in your pocket there’s a snitch
Forget and you will pay the price.

Sunday, December 03, 2023

Notorious

Well I’ve been so naughty
I’ll have to work twice
As hard to show you baby
I can also be nice.

Saturday, December 02, 2023

Heavy Hitters

A punch to the liver
Deftly delivered
Can bring one down to their knees

But only the vicious
Could be so malicious
Like those who say, “Vote for me please!”

Friday, December 01, 2023

Foregone

He never went out of his way
To try and acquire new friends
Just stagnated more every day
Can you guess how this tale ends?

Thursday, November 30, 2023

Uniparty

I’m not fond of either side
They ALL have cheated, pilfered, lied
We, the people, must put aside
Our differences and tan some hides!

Wednesday, November 29, 2023

Dismantled

The salt has lost its savor
The fake are now in favor
And everyone seems so hell bent
On lauding bad behavior

It really is appalling
To watch our standards falling
To placate those whose time is spent
On indolence or mauling.

Tuesday, November 28, 2023

Ambivalent

Should I heed the alarm

Or be tardy again

And rely on my charm

I mean, what’s the harm

We’re so near the end

Should I heed the alarm?

Monday, November 27, 2023

Variability

What’s your tempo, fast or slow,
A zombie or a dynamo?
On some days I am just so-so
On others I will go-go-go.

No Benefits

They freely don the chains
Just so they don’t have to work
But once their free will wanes
Those links are tough to shirk
And now in every little town
They’re dragging everybody down.

Dystopic

When you say what no one wants to hear
Your calendar gets very clear
But I have never lived in fear

Of what other people think of me
I'm simply stating what I see
I just wish such a world never had to be.

Friday, November 24, 2023

Famished

The oven's droning loudly next to me
and on the left a freezer hums along,
I'm stewing on this thing called Destiny
but feel I’m simply one among the throng,
for nothing in my life would indicate
any hint of a noble cause or such,
it’s time I filled another empty plate
for those convinced they'll never get too much.
The barman tells me someone liked their wings
I numbly shrug and tell him, “Hey that’s great.”
it’s good to know I’m not a total waste,
and though I crave to do artistic things
I guess this is the fullness of my fate:
To hunger but to never get a taste.

Pregaming

The best way to start? Have a grateful heart
And always give as much as you can spare,
Abundance of compassion starves despair,
Have a grateful heart, the best way to start.

Cold Turkey

Halt the hate
Retaliate
Reject the lie
And thus deny
The anchor herd
Like frozen bird.
Sick of it?
Just quit!

Tuesday, November 21, 2023

Blue?

Help the greedy have their fill
Let the violent maim and kill
Enable crooks to freely prey
Welcome world to the liberal way

Ensuring there is endless war
Keeping loyal voters poor
A constant crisis guaranteed
The liberal way, oh yes indeed

Their religion? Worship the state!
Their favorite hymn, the song of hate,
Wishing it was over my friend?
The liberal way will be our end.

Abraded

Once the innocence is scoured away
From the tender face we knew
We knowingly shake our heads and say
My, how they grew

If only we could remain pristine
For more than just a minute
But minions of the mean machine
Can’t wait to rub our noses in it.

Sunday, November 19, 2023

C'est la vie

Everyone starts sweet
Until they let you see
The depth of their deceit
A fait accompli.

Saturday, November 18, 2023

Deep Fake

Is this poem from me
Or a virtual facsimile
Endowed by data gleaned
When we were quarantined
And every click I let
Be entered on the interNET?

Beware the evil seed
No loyalty is guaranteed
A digital domain
Where meddling mice reign
Will start to take control
And DOWNload your soul.

The Anatomy of Estrangement

When I was young I was told
‘Everyone’s the same’
Although I had a different mold
I tried to play the game

And now the contradictions scream
For though we share a race
Everyone’s heart doesn’t seem
To be in the same place.

Thursday, November 16, 2023

Captivated

I saw the new moon dangle
At an awkward type of angle
And felt myself atangle

With tentacles of light
It curled into the night
To grasp the dreamers tight.

Wednesday, November 15, 2023

Moderate

The hourglass was flipped
When the garden was profaned
Eternity abruptly stripped
Our souls forever stained

The degradation never stops
Until we decompose
Unless a tainted spirit drops
Into the lake of woes

Temptations of the flesh are sweet
But tend to foster rot
Attempt to limit what you eat
Before the final plot.

Tuesday, November 14, 2023

Sleight

How many times have we been fooled?
It’s really hard to say
The class that has forever ruled
Gets better every day
At making those beneath them squirm
Pretending they observe a term
There are no limits to what they do
Can you honestly say you know what’s true?

Monday, November 13, 2023

Hit Making

Changing the tune because you can
Could make it disjointed and jarring
Music should move or mollify man
Not spur inharmonious sparring.

Sunday, November 12, 2023

Best Life

Is it best to have one
Where you only have fun
And nothing gets done
Unless it benefits you

Or should you be more
Of an advocate for
The hungry and poor
What good can you do?

Saturday, November 11, 2023

Stamina

The best thing about sweat?
It can wash away regret
At least until you cool down
Then it’s anybody's bet.

Timely

When feathers sprout
The seconds gout
And get everywhere as it zooms about

A blink, a year
Does it disappear?
The death of another eon is near.

Blustering

The gray November sky
Is gloomy and I sigh
A gust that blows some leaves about
Forgive the burst that I let out
I thought I could defy
The gray November sky.

Exit Strategy

Sometimes we must walk away
from what we have achieved
because it would be worse to stay
among the self-deceived

who don’t even feel shame
sometimes. We must walk away
from those engrossed in a game
we refuse to ever play,

to their ultimate dismay
as they observe us retreat,
sometimes we must. Walk away
or face eventual defeat

That’s just the way it goes
When narcissistic fools hold sway
As anyone afflicted knows
Sometimes we must walk away.

Tuesday, November 07, 2023

Breached

Whatever THEY say is brave
Whatever WE say is hate
Sovereignty is tough to save
When hostiles are inside the gate.

Infancy

Brooke was a defenseless waif
Who needed someone to keep her safe
And thus her dad (a genius) designed
A robot nanny, the first of its kind.

It was a bit ungainly, but very adept
At feeding and watching, ensuring she slept
And as Brooke grew, it learned to adapt
Protecting her always for it never napped

Unable to speak, it learned to talk
By flashing diodes on the end of a stalk
And truly felt love in a very short span
And that’s how the spark of life began.

Sunday, November 05, 2023

Self Serving

I don’t see things the way other folks do
And it makes for an awkward silence or two
Which is why I began this site where I dish
My words say as little (or as much) as you wish.

Saturday, November 04, 2023

Accomplished

When it’s time to get things done
I set my jaw and get to work
But I also like to have some fun
So have been known to shirk;

We make our lives both good and bad
And sometimes we make such a mess
That we grow sad for what we had
And learn to goof a little less.

Friday, November 03, 2023

Laughable

Spare me your sniveling sniff
You can’t tell a joke to a stiff
They’ll tell you – you stink
Who cares what they think,
Does it really make much of a diff?

Thursday, November 02, 2023

Nested

They give us tools so that we can perceive
The defects in those silken lies they weave
But data never really does supply
An answer for the ones who wonder why
The brood has been beguiled to believe
They're better off enslaved than free to fly.

Out of the Panderverse

Life isn’t facile for a fossil
A curmudgeon quite colossal,
The trained abhor those who don’t believe
The programming that panders every eve.

Ghost Busting

Not every specter merits a good scream
At times they’re only there to foster rue
In those that had to put aside their dream
For duty's sake (that’s what the loyal do)
But still it can be jarring to behold
That shambling shade whenever it appears
Its fetid breath unsettling and cold
Reminding them of fallow, wasted years.
The rattling of chains, that old cliché
Is much more accurate than many know
For most have grown accustomed to a yoke
Refuse to let such fiends have their own way
Tell them, “Take your corroded links and go!”
Then watch as *POOF* they simply turn to smoke.

Marked

Standing in my kitchen in the dark
I wonder if I’ve left a lasting mark
Besides the one I currently fulfill:
The dude that certain people want to kill.

Sunday, October 29, 2023

Scary

The gangland ghouls
Don’t follow rules
They haunt the streets in search of fools
Who buy the hype
That there’s no gripe
And have so many things to swipe.

Jacked

The pumpkin punk
Was rude and stunk
Like garbage from a rotten can
With a spray orange tan

He claimed he knew
Who did what to who
A seedy kind of guy
That swore by every lie

Until the day he was made
By a good fellow with a blade
The punk said, “You're nuts!”
The goon snarled, “Spill your guts!”

Friday, October 27, 2023

Crumbling

The impermanence of life
Was like a knife
That whittled on my sapling soul
And the only way to dam the hole
Was solid stone
But the damned are prone
To sediments that build
Where even the iron-willed
Will feel the pressure ache
Until they finally break.

Move It

I don’t care
If I ain’t got no car
And I don’t care
If I don’t get too far

There’s only one way
I ever want to go
That’s my own way
So move it cuz you’re kinda slow.

Wednesday, October 25, 2023

I may not be wicked
But I’m bad enough
If that’s your ticket
Then show me the stuff

gtfoh

Those with high ideals
Think everyone is sweet
But never fought for meals
With rats that prowl the street
They grease the civic wheels
To make their dream complete:
A mongrel horde that kneels
While they get all the meat.

Poke at Your Own Risk

The more the world disowns me
The further I retreat
Alone but never lonely
Completely incomplete

The cultists of inclusion
Demand ONE side concede
Another bold intrusion
A grizzly will be freed.

Joe Blows

I got out of work tired and sore
And walked into a full blown war
Four young robbers were in my yard
I had to come down on them hard
What do you say after such an event?
Another day of Joe as president.

I went to the store, couldn’t afford
The items I bought before prices soared
Looks like peanut butter and jelly again
Hunger will keep me awake to defend
The plot where my life may be spent.
Another day of Joe as president.

Thrift

The autumn sun begins to sink
As puffy clouds turn slightly pink
And geese veer south in giant Vs
While orange leaves swirl in the breeze

When vision dims a hunter may
Crawl through the trees in search of prey
Its silver shafts will pierce the heart
Of any predisposed towards art

And in the larder we shall store
What we can spare, that’s what it’s for
The winter’s colder than we think
The autumn sun begins to sink.

Friday, October 20, 2023

Sinker

All the lines that sport a hook
And still no promise of a book
But I’m beyond regret or rage
Another cast on minimum wage.

When your senses detect
What you'd never expect
Don’t hesitate very long

Standing there waiting
Because you’re debating
Could be the end of your song.

The mumbles of a doddering fool
Do little to dissuade the cruel
And even worse are shills who prop
This bumbling bandit up nonstop.

bcs

Shameless shots
Plural plots
Liars leer
Foster fear
Ballots bought
Terror taught
Worthless war
Shrinking shore
Speeches spewed
Brashness brewed
Gridlock grows
Worldly woes
People pray
Wiser way
Savior Son
ONLY ONE.

Graspable

This isn’t the life I dreamed
But it’s the one I’ve had
And though I’m not esteemed
It hasn’t been too bad
I just keep doing the best I can
Until I can’t — that’s the plan.

Sunday, October 15, 2023

Revealing

Don’t be so smug over what you can do
If it’s just what your masters tell you to
The buzzwords you spout are literal chains
That strangle the logic in well laundered brains

We all will believe whatever we choose
My advice is: don’t depend on the news
Or people in power who tell you they care,
If you doubt everything you’re halfway there

To seeing the truth of absurdities they
Present as facts in their straight-faced way
Deceptions are never fun to perceive
But it’s better than being made naïve.

Neutrality

Is buying thyme
Considered sage?
Forsake your prime
You’ll taste some rage
A bitter rhyme
Can spoil the page.
Your only crime?
The war you didn’t wage.

Photosynthesis

I'm trying to absorb the light I need
To grow beyond the limits of my breed
Which follows an uncompromising creed
To satisfy its all-consuming greed.

Mucked

When everything’s a lie
No matter how you try
Your life will never be what you desire

You try to act so cool
But the only one you fool
Is yourself, so stop and crawl out of the mire.

Road Rash

I wanted to stop and stare at the sky
Where giant pink cumulus gather to die
And the blue is so deep it drives one to cry
But all I did was zoom right by.

Tuesday, October 10, 2023

Anticipation

I feel myself beginning to descend
Into realms where madmen fear to wend,
As layers of reality grow thin
The more the ancient gears will spin

And there’s no ground that doesn’t shake
When tossed about by cosmic wake
Temporal eddies reverse their flow
Prepare to unlearn what you think you know.

Coverage

The recruits marched across the country it seems
Sunlight on their armor menacingly gleams
Promising that they can supply the power required
To dictate to the rural folks that maybe aren’t so wired.

Abscond

Autumnal winds proceed
To aid the flight of the freed
That wind up on the street
Ignored by the elite
Who sneer in snobbish lilt
That’s why gutters were built
If given a chance to run
Escape the ‘civilized’ ones.

Extermination

There are rats in our house
And we have to move fast
Before the old louse
Makes tomorrow our last.

Friday, October 06, 2023

Delivered

A waxing gibbous moon
Was high above the earth
A silent silver sentinel
The doctor said, “Soon.”
Then there was a birth
And thus began my stint in hell.

A reading can’t foretell
An individual's worth
Or where the bones are strewn
I guess it’s just as well
That we can find some mirth
Beneath a waxing gibbous moon.

Thursday, October 05, 2023

Victimized

All I want is peace
As hostilities increase
The puppeteers have made my neighbors
Into violent beasts

And just because I’m white?
Something isn’t right
When I come home tired from my labors
And have to be ready to fight.

Doublespeak

Their pathetic excuse
For tightening the noose?
Safety – is their shame inert?
They wish we were dead
But tell us instead
Well we wouldn’t want anyone hurt.

Tuesday, October 03, 2023

Snotty

They said that decongestant was bad
So I took stock of all I had
Then ran right out to rapidly buy
Enough to double my supply.

Another Fall

The vibrant robes
Sport ruby globes
As sunlight through the spaces strobes
Like flashes of remembrance in my mind

That verse I penned
Made me a friend
Until they let the bastards rend
Our bond. I pity anyone so blind.

As turning leaves
Ride gusty heaves
A chilly brooding poet grieves
When warmer sun once shined.

Watch Uranus

Saturn in Aquarius
Could become nefarious
But hopefully it’s just a brand new start

Where stars and planets congregate
Omens tend to indicate
That fortune may create a stellar chart.

Revisited

Inundated
Frustrated
Just about
Exasperated
You should have been
More motivated
But as usual
You waited.

Completely irked
The universe smirked
Every nerve
Is overworked
Momentum stilled
When rudely jerked
By woes you never
Should have shirked.

Clip

How do you make vermin behave?
Put a camera across from their cage
So you can download and save
Proof of the war that THEY wage
And serpents that bribe them for votes
Can swallow the shit in their throats.

Violated

Innocence,
idyllically pristine
till ravaged by
the merciless machine
that forces itself
into every single pore
sadistically whispering
You know you want more.
Can no one help
this wide-eyed waif
to once again
be safe?

Invalidating

To reach your full potential
You must be deferential
Then they will allow you
To think that you’re essential

Once you prove you're pliable
They roll out the reliable
Restrictions so the rights you knew
Are no longer viable.

Please Call Me Baby

I love when you whisper my name
But it just isn’t the same
As when you call me Baby and I melt
From all the extra lovin’ that I felt

Please call me baby
Oh won’t you please
I'd settle for a maybe
To make me weak in the knees
Please call me baby
Oh won’t you please
Please call me baby
When you’re givin’ me a little squeeze

Oh won’t you pick up the phone
I am sitting here all alone
We should be having a fling
I’m waiting for you to make my bell ring

Is sure to cost something, you see
Governmental gluttony guaranteed
To be subject to the governors’ greed.

Seasonality

Petunia looks pallid this cool summer morn
Morose, for the specter of frost
Has scared off the temperance this season had borne
And now she laments what was lost

The sumac are sullen and robin treads eggs
No feathers will be ruffled here
A stiffness has taken control of my legs
It’s obvious winter is near.

DEFCON 1

When I blow
Everyone will know
The mushroom cloud
Will form a shroud
That blots the sun
You better run!

Catty

Very few do their own thing
The one takeaway I bring
They claim they’re unique
But follow the meek
Like a kitten that clings to a string

I'm not that kind of a guy
Obsessed with the concept of Why?
Though feel I must say
The independent way
Can be a lonely living to ply.

Hiatus

My aim to not complain
Seems to be in vain
For all I want to do is screeeam like I’m insane

I know that life’s not fair
But as of late despair
Is hell bent on giving me more than my fair share

Though quitting's not my style
And I’m not finished by a mile
It’s safe to say— I've had enough for a while.

Butt Heads

Every drag destroys
More flesh and future joys
Considering the price folks pay
You'd think they’d give them away.

Watchers

We observe this fledgling race
And all their quaint attempts at grace
From high above their mortal sphere
Forbidden to ever interfere

Our job is simply to record
The follies of this hapless horde
Along with any that disperse
Across the endless universe

So many cultures come and go
An epoch ends before you know
For history is never still
We’ve always been and always will.

TV Land

Looking less human than ever
These creatures that think they’re so clever
Confound those unable to see
That nothing’s what it seems to be.

Deluded

When taught what is true
We learn to be strong
For all that lies do
Is bolster the throng
An outcome the few
Have sought all along.

What a Looker

I need a subject
For a night of bliss
That doesn’t suspect
Anything's amiss

With gorgeous eyes
So life’s less a bore
To read me lines
I can’t see anymore.

Participation

One voice can be silenced
Two or three ignored
But if we all get strident
They'll change or leave the board.

Spurts

You pour stuff in
It squirts right out
You spring a leak
It’s bound to spout
You patch it up
A dryer bout
You push too hard
It squirts right out.

Electivity

I remember years ago
You couldn’t reach the hoop
And I sat helpless as you cried
Now I marvel as you grow
And excel among your group
All because one thing – you still tried!

Just heard this morning that Westin was elected president of his freshman class, congratulations!!!

Runners

Eggs are done
Mac's begun
So much fun
Run, run, run

Everyone
Beneath the sun
Whose wheels have spun
Run, run, run.

Armageddon Game

The night took the rooks
The bishops held mass
They read from good books
When so many souls pass

The pawns did their part
And begged to be led
Machinations are art
To the king of the dead.

Who Shot Liberty's Balance?

Lady Liberty struggles, bound and gagged
By the specter of deceased fundamentals—
Into the abyss maliciously dragged,
Powerless against the temperamental.

Tarnished balance no longer weighing true
Proudly displayed like a trophy of war
Signifies the days of equal justice are through,
Autonomy has become the bureaucrats’ whore.

Gradually disarmed and demoralized
This valiant heroine resists in vain—
Freedom has been carefully sanitized,
Self-expression and truth viciously slain.

Assuredly

At times it brims
At times a drop
Sometimes it skims
Right over top
And all my whims
Completely flop

It takes some skill
To make it brew
One word can kill
The bit you knew
Believe and you will
Have some too.

So You Say

A realm of contradictions
Is the world we all must share
So spare me your Convictions
When you don’t even care!

Humane

You’re allowed to remain
Until you test the chain
Then they let you know
Once more and you will go
But you won’t feel any pain
Put to sleep nice and slow.

Nauseating

Would you eat a tumor
If I served it extra crispy?
You just may if you humor
One whose hair is red and wispy

There’s nothing more unhealthy
Than a clown that tries to make
Itself insanely wealthy
By serving food that’s fake

Next Gen

They relieved the old guard
With a riveting review
For soldiering is hard
And duty takes its due—
The young are used while they are spry
The aged? Sent home to rot and die
And Venus, bathed in starlight still
Inspires them to charge that hill.

***I will post a picture of the new behemoths as soon as I get a good one 👍 😉 ***

Reiteration

Does it take more courage to be
Involved, or to flee?
Guess we’ll see.

Will it all come down to: She
Must change, or maybe he?
Look above, line three.

Sunday, September 03, 2023

Umbrous

With her he was
So doggedly true
Wither he was
No sun getting through

With her he will
Never quite bloom
Wither he will
An unforeseen doom.

Saturday, September 02, 2023

Puzzled

I'm starting to sweat
From this darn word game
And the one I didn’t get
Makes me hang my head in shame

It starts with a P, ends with T
And it’s something I have been
I don’t know if it’s just irony
Or time to hang up the pen.

Take Note

Yes, music is something you hear
But it’s also a force you can feel
If you only rely on your ear
You miss a big part of the deal.

Thursday, August 31, 2023

Busker

As of late
I fluctuate
From: Wow, this sucks.
To: Things are great!

My daily feat?
To stay upbeat
And make some bucks
So I can eat.

I did my bit
But never fit
So learned to jam
To deal with it

The only way
I can belay
How sad I am
Is sing and play.

Wednesday, August 30, 2023

Day and Night

I watched the super moon
Descend
And knew that all-too-soon
The end
Would absolutely be

But then I saw the blazing sun
Ascend
And thought Hey, I’m not done
I'll bend
The world to accommodate and see.

Tuesday, August 29, 2023

Offering

To see within a seed
The beauty of the bloom
One must first succeed
At looking past the gloom
That comes with certain doom.

To transit the abyss
Corporeal desires
To savor endless bliss
Must perch upon the pyres
Of sacrificial fires.

Creep

The weavers of the night
Leave their warp strung tight
To sparkle in the morning light

They make the finest silk
From iridescent milk
Like others of their ilk

I stumble through their creel
And shudder when I feel
Their lines, my arms pinwheel

And though I can’t hear
I’m sure somewhere near
One screams, “Get outta here!”

Sunday, August 27, 2023

Incontrovertible

Don’t drive with your usual vigor
And maybe you won’t pull the trigger
Of one who is much like a gun
Restricting your options to run
For even though the case is closed
The evidence is never disposed.

Indulging

Oh my sweet sweet corn and salty butter
How I’ve missed you.
She heard him mutter
And though she was feeling a bit upset
She liked him happy so didn’t fret.

Reasons

A lot of people like to talk
About the shit that they go through
I keep my problems to myself
But if someone asks me
Why I do what I do
I just look at them and say Well,

I got my reasons
Which I don’t need to explain to you
I got my reasons
I know you got yours too

Now you can ask me
How I been
I’ll tell ya “Takin’ care of me and mine.”
And as long as you don’t try
To pry into my business
You and me we’ll be just fine

I got my reasons
Which I don’t need to explain to you
I got my reasons
I know you got yours too

If only everyone
Around the world could understand
Some folks don’t like to tell their tale
I am one of those
And if pumping me is your plan
It’s gonna be an epic fail

I got my reasons
Which I don’t need to explain to you
I got my reasons
I know you got yours too
I got my reasons
I know you got yours too
I got my reasons
I know you got yours too

Uncivilized

They took your clods and dumped them here
And forced all life involved to veer
Then once razed residents regrow
They come and give the old heave ho.

Inert

Going through the motions
Ever standing still
Devout to false devotions
Afraid to take a spill

Atypical attraction
Complacency can kill
Attempts to gain some traction
Ever standing still.

Going Hard

Does rigidity breed stupidity?
It’s a possibility if
You abort your objectivity
To get a little stiff.

Monday, August 21, 2023

Optics

Would they fix the eyes
Of one who can’t perceive
The well constructed lies
They train us to believe?
You wouldn’t think so but they did
Always working under the lid.

Sunday, August 20, 2023

Unbroken

A stick, a stem, or stalk of straw
Is all that it would take
To make this weary, aging back
At last completely break
I can’t pretend my life is fine
Because I’m not a fake
But still believe I will prevail
With faith no one can shake.

Realization

Thinking I could
And proving you can
Does what it should—
Makes you a man.

Wanderings

The spirit is willing
The body rebels
It scolds you for swilling
Gets achy and swells

But if you are able
Defer to the mind
It helps keep you stable
When the path's undefined.

Rockin' the Rocker

Can you make up for a lifetime of sloth
By living a while like David Lee Roth?
Well, I suppose if you’re willing there’s always a chance
So grab your guitar, get up there and prance!

You Can't Run Away From Love

I looked up ‘annoying’ in my dictionary book
Saw a picture of your face and that’s all it took
I figured it was time for me to start another tale
So I’m telling you goodbye through the US Mail

I wandered round the countryside uncertain what to do
For most of my life had been spent with you
Everything I did made me think of what we had
And that was when I knew that I still had it bad

You can’t run away from love
You can’t run away from love
You can push and you can shove
But you can’t run away from love

Tuesday, August 15, 2023

Play Time

The guitar is simply complex
For those who enjoy a good vex
One chord can be three
Try it you’ll see
The dexterous are wise to pre-flex.

Monday, August 14, 2023

Grimmer

The thief has become
A brazen baboon
With the shambling gait
Of a left-leaning loon

His cabinet creaks
Abundantly stocked
With canned diatribes
To feed to the flocked

With harpies that screech
And patsies that fib
They spit in your eye
But claim to be glib

Inhabiting lands
Of crude make believe
If they all aren’t booked
The rest of us will grieve.

Sunday, August 13, 2023

Unsync

If you’re a second poor
Are you out of time?
They don’t let us set our clocks anymore
A chronological crime

For those that seek to control
Your mind forbid thought
And disconnect you from your soul
The tether is taut

A simulation can’t succeed
Without a data glut
Beware an all too needy feed
That helps you plan your rut.

Ticker

Determination
Aggravation
Consternation
Separation

Indignation
Trepidation
Detonation.

Wilt Thou

The beauty of a perfect purple bloom
(fragility foreshadowing its doom)
Should be enjoyed the second it’s beheld
Before the fleeting flicker has dispelled.

Dead On

He did everything to perfection
His scrutiny made him a slave
No defect escaped his detection
There wasn’t a one he would waive
Right down to his final selection
He flawlessly fit in his grave.

Wednesday, August 09, 2023

Pent

He knew he had no chance
To ever truly advance
Because he always held back
Whenever he excelled
People were repelled
So he chose to simply slack
Surrender to the whim
Of those innately dim
You'll be penned in by the pack.

Tuesday, August 08, 2023

Affirmative

It seemed she really enjoyed
Throwing her ample weight around
But what she should have employed
Was a diet or a mu'umu'u gown

Her only qualification was
A filthy mouth that loved to spew
Abuse at everyone because
That’s what the empowered do

I really miss the former way
When bosses actually had some skill
Unlike what we get today
Where quotas must be filled.

Monday, August 07, 2023

Sprawl

It’s just a greasy blur
A steed that you must spur
One second to be free
For all Infinity
A portal left ajar
To help you see afar
Beyond where we exist
The outskirts of the gist.

Sunday, August 06, 2023

Majestic

I look beyond the foliage to see
A gem encrusted canopy
Where precious points of interstellar light
Twinkle in the diadem of night.

Saturday, August 05, 2023

Schematic

Fabric has a memory
Or so the elders say
Is that why I see misery
Incessantly replay—

Our thoughts create reality
Like hands caressing clay
So should I make my tapestry
With less or much more gray?

Wild Life

Eva Green was knotty
Her limbs all askew
At the annual Spring Party
And now she is due
The squirrels were explicit
Their nuts weren’t involved
It takes but a minute
For life to evolve.

Thursday, August 03, 2023

Unappetizing

Just leave the farmers be
They’re the finest folks I know
Shut them down and you will see
What misery you sow.

Just let the farmers live
With their bovine, swine, and fowls
You’ll learn that they’re imperative
When your empty stomach growls.

Terms of Service

Citizen you’ve heard before
But do you know what it means?
Defending pawns who loudly snore
Through conquest by machines
And suits that only pilfer more
While judging ways and means.

Employee yes you may be one
Performing tasks called work
While snobs in charge have all the fun
(an entrepreneurial perk)
As leeches loose in Washington
Must finance those who shirk.

Constituent a fancy word
That means somehow you owe
Allegiance to thieves who drive the herd
To graze where grass won’t grow
I know it’s all a bit absurd
But sadly seems to be so.

Tuesday, August 01, 2023

Taxing

When lying greedy bureaucrats
Gnaw on you like rabid rats
For every bit of flesh they can
It really gets annoying man!

Monday, July 31, 2023

Frugality

I try my best each day
To share the thoughts that start
But would you call it art?
I really couldn’t say
No one would listen anyway.

To watch the sun descend
And know that it could be
The final time you see
The iridescent end—
You pinch each tick you spend.

Sunday, July 30, 2023

Loner

There isn’t that much you can do
When you feel you just don’t belong
Either stay low key and muddle through
Or lie to get along

Repeat the same words everyone does
So you can come off as hip
And drink what sells the most because
It’s what the masses sip

Or simply duck the foolish fold
Avoiding all the stink
Of those that do what they are told
But never learn to think.

Saturday, July 29, 2023

Guess Again

You think I’m a lush because my nose is red?
I fear you’re a corpse because your brain is dead
I watched my mother grapple with that horrible disease
And you believe I’d go out like that? Puh-lease!

Friday, July 28, 2023

Stacking

Things are getting wild
As civilization falls
They only care about corrupting your child,
Bobbing boobs and balls,

Or luring those from foreign boats
So they can use their names
To help create more shadow votes
And cheat to win the game.

Thursday, July 27, 2023

Afterglow

She had a certain glow
Or so some people said
But what they didn’t know
The glow was orange-red

As long as she had butane
And a rock that she could smoke
She couldn’t feel her pain
At least until she was broke

Then she learned to take
New levels of abuse
As long as she could make
Enough to buy some juice

She had a certain glow
As haunting as the moon
Now she’s just a cold Jane Doe
Departed much too soon.

Wednesday, July 26, 2023

Disproportionate

You champion variety?
Well everyone is unique
If you feel that isn’t diversity
You really shouldn’t speak

Demanding a quota is met
Negates individual choice
And giving the lazy a net
Is never a cause to rejoice.

Tuesday, July 25, 2023

Good for Your Heart

Well I’ve had my fill
Of every cheap thrill
It tends to get old after a while
But I found something new
And yes, that is you
Thank you for making me smile

I told my doc the news
He said, “I’m glad you choose
To be so much happier now,
Love can help you heal
And truly make you feel
Way better, and this my friend is how

It’s good for your heart
To love someone a lot
To give them every part
Of everything you’ve got

The joy that comes your way
Will be right off the chart
So love someone today
It's good for your heart.

The best thing about love
It’s better when you share
Give it to everyone
Everywhere, everywhere.

Civics

They took your fragile habitat
And simply dropped it here ker-splat!
In an old abandoned parking lot
While trumpeting their greenness – NOT!

Sunday, July 23, 2023

Most Likely to Secede

None of them ever knew
oblivious to someone who
Was never eager for the chance
To mime the same old circumstance
And thus four decades later we
Are told a gathering will be
Assembled so the fake can say
It feels like it was yesterday
With teeth so white it hurts your eyes
Much like their need to utter lies.

Saturday, July 22, 2023

Prudence

She lived in a post modern house
On a rambling country estate
And wore her respectable blouse
With a sun hat that wasn’t ornate

It was floppy and faded a bit
But perfectly shaded her face
When mowing the lawn she used it
The picture of civilized grace.

The Show

The greedy cheat and lie
And steal until they die
The righteous, not so much
Unless it’s just a crutch
You never really know
Until their colors show
The shade that they maintain
Reveals if they’re germane.

Blocked

Stare into the small device
He heard within his head
pursue your lust, forget the price,
can't have fun when you’re dead.

He thought about it long and hard
And though he had the urge
Refused to heed a signal marred
By greed, so didn’t splurge

Interior Design

When all you wish for is more to give
You’ve finally learned to live
If your only goal is to help provide
You'll feel good inside.

R n R

It’s either hot or raining
When it’s time to dig a grave
And no I’m not complaining
But could do without the wave

With every stab into the earth
I blink from all the sweating
It’s sad we wind up here from birth
Redeemable or regretting.

Monday, July 17, 2023

Liveliness

There’s no way to alter
When you will falter
Just pick yourself up and advance
The sun is descending
So quit your pretending
And scramble for every last chance.

(Dis)Appointment

Vapid flippers blather on TV
The shrew is getting ready to go see
Another quack who sends another bill
Do they help or bleed until they kill?

Tumultuous describes the way I feel
Unable to appropriately deal
With all the things I wish that I could change
But time is not for me to rearrange

And thus I write, but not for pity's sake
It helps to dull this self-inflicted ache
Of knowing how different it could have been
If I was more a man way back when.

Obedience Drive

They’re always making lines
We’re told not to cross
Then imposing fines
To train us through the loss
That we must never ever buck
The system or we’re outta luck.

Disemvoweled

A Z on its side is an N
A W flipped is an M
So please, do tell me again
How WE can’t be hustled by THEM.

Enriched

Against my better judgment
I ensue
To suffer the begrudgement
Of the crew
Who relish their arrangement
To be kept
But I endorse estrangement
From the inept.

Frequency

You can feel the tone
right down to the bone
and wearily groan—

Whatever you do
it starts anew
the screeching shrew.

Cimmerian

I watch luminescent insects fly
As searing plasma coruscates on high
Then a helicopter strobe makes me cry
“Why does illumination pass me by?”

Monday, July 10, 2023

Dauntless

I always knew things were wrong
Yet didn’t know how to make it right
And spent my whole life long
Stalked by an amorphous fright
But I refuse to live in fear
You want me world? I’m right here!

Expectancy

A squirrel was mowed
Convulsed in the road
No one slowed

The Wheel turns
As chaos churns
No one learns

We live for blasts
But all have pasts
No one lasts.

Jelly

I saw an old friend the other day
He seemed happy in a different way
I said, “Hey, what’s up with you bro?”
He said, “I got a girl and I love her so!”

I saw her picture and said, “Ooh wee
How can I find one for me?”
He said, “I don’t know but this one’s mine.”
And that’s when I saw the green light shine

I'm jelly
I wish I had her
I'm jelly
And getting madder
I'm jelly
She’s so elusive
I'm jelly
I'm gonna lose it!

Imagine when meat and willpower mesh
There’s nothing we can’t do!

Troubadour

I never tried to be a star
I don’t drive no fancy car
But I love to play guitar
In some rundown low ceiling redneck bar

I'm a troubadour
Content but poor
I'm a troubadour
Now get out on the dance floor

I try my best to sing in key
Sometimes I get a little squeaky
Then I kick on a pedal or three
And jam for a while in A or E

Slippage

Did you ever blurt something out then think
Did I just say too much?
Rule number one: Internal dialogue
Should always stay as such.

Tuesday, July 04, 2023

To Die For

The artificial aftertaste
of all that we are sold
assassinates my appetite
like bread that’s blue with mold
and maybe it’s just me,
but it’s really getting old
having it crammed down our throats
by those who kill for gold.

Data Dump

Pattern recognition is the key
When trying to assess humanity
Disregard what earnest people say
And watch how they behave throughout the day

If you notice an alarming trend
Of actions unbecoming of a friend
It may be time to change, as per the chart
So you can mend a too forgiving heart.

Interloper

That sneaky tick thought it was slick
And hunkered down to do its shtick
But it was not prepared to feel

When forced to play upon the grass
Try not to get a bug up your ass.

Blowing It

The moon looks like it just exhaled
A giant puff of smoke
And all attempts at ringlets failed
(The awkward pockmarked bloke)

And now the stars can’t respire
Through haze so thick and blue
It seems the whole world’s on fire
And there’s nothing we can do.

Bedfellows

Impatiens are haughty
And try to push out
Petunia who’s pouty
And filled with dark doubt

But with proper pruning
They’ll not just survive
They may start communing
And learn how to thrive.

Impertinence implies

You can’t be too picky
We all get a shot
Because if not

No Contest

The game ensues
Won’t play? You lose
Prefer to win?
You must be in

So pay those dues!
The game ensues
An endless test
Of Who’s the Best?

For only those
With fancy clothes
The game ensues
It’s all a ruse

To make you try
To be their guy
It’s time to choose
The game ensues.

Prick

Regardless how many flowers you plant
With every hateful rant
You show what blooms within your heart
The thorny truth will smart.

Unwanted

I contemplate my glaring lack
of reasons to behave
and fight this inner urge I have
to simply shrug and cave
And though I never will concede
To lust I can control
I have to counteract the greed
Which taints my weary soul.

Her lover was lascivious
And had a tart or three
Thank goodness I am penniless
And can’t afford the fee.

Foundational

Like rigid adherence to rules or it fails?
There isn’t a blueprint to build happiness,
Just love a lot more and demand a bit less.

Uplifting

Always keep moving up
It’s really the best way to go
Though sometimes life gets tough
Don’t let it get you low

I hope all your dreams come true
And God overflows your cup
Remember how much I love you
Always keep moving up.

Phase Doubt

Venus flirts with someone new
Who's not too bright, but such is woo
At times the ones that we attract
Grow darker than they first act.

Backslash

I was never trying to be somebody
Just seeing what I could do
All you’ve done is make me feel cruddy
What did I do to you?

Let’s see: pretty much everything
You request is faithfully done
While you go on eviscerating
Me, it hasn’t been fun.

With luck you’ll come to realize
How vicious you have been
As I seek ways to minimize
The knife you wield again.

Yanks

With programmed pomp and circumstance
A humored thrall will proudly dance
Until instructed to refrain
By those that like to yank the chain.

Sunday, June 18, 2023

Rocked

If it’s good, I did it
If not, it wasn’t me,
Cain, who thought he hid it
Forgot how God can see

Never forfeit virtue
To feign your innocence
The truth can only hurt you
If you have no good defense

True Blue

The intervals you choose
Will decorate your blues
Just follow how you feel
And never mute your zeal
Reject the rock star ruse
To resonate the real.

Exchange

At times I get so busy
I have no time to think
When you’re so tired you’re dizzy
It’s hard to be succinct

For everything is blurry
And focus is a must
I cannot stop mid-scurry
To scratch runes in the dust

But once my mind has rested
It starts to generate
Such thoughts my brain’s congested
Until I ventilate.

Middle of Nowhere

I’m out in the middle of nowhere
Jamming my way home
Completely lost but I don’t care
I just need to be alone

The highway stretches out in front of me
As long as I keep moving I feel free
I've got enough gas to get me someplace new
As far as I can be away from you

Wednesday, June 14, 2023

Blast

Play the game
Alter aim
One more loss
That’s so lame

Don’t be tame
Time to maim
Best the boss
Shed your shame.

Tuesday, June 13, 2023

Misfire

Sometimes when you do
You wish that you had not
The question: If you knew
Would you still have shot?

Monday, June 12, 2023

Interview

Is everything a poem to you?
I suppose you could say that’s true.
Do you always think in rhyme?
Every day, all the time.
Is nothing safe where you’re concerned?
A reputation proudly earned.
And when will you complete this task?
Never, so nice of you to ask.

Out There

I absorb, regurgitate
Then wonder Did I just create?
Are we sadly doomed to live
A long and pale derivative?

I'm sorry, but I must confess
That I’m a filthy reprobate
Without two f@#ks to give,
The goal is simply this: Express.

Saturday, June 10, 2023

Instigator

Searching for solace In the succor of semantics
The bosom of irreverence to nurse repressed romantics
Nourishing the nonchalant with nonsense naughtily
To help harass the huffy sort that humph so haughtily.

Accessories

I’m not sure If you believe
Or just don’t want to question
The pundits who deceive
To foster misconception

For anything politicized
Is more than likely fake
They don’t want John Q apprised
Of how much they will take

The only thing more frustrating
Than living in a lie
Is those who keep perpetuating
As freedom slowly dies.

Getting Together

I really have zero to say
That anyone wants to hear
It’s just a typical day
In another stagnant year
And despite being your peer
I never did belong
Resistant to reminders dear
Of when my life went wrong

And although nothing much has changed
I’ve learned to live with being estranged.

Have Your Cake

One and one
Is eleven son
Now go make sure
To have some fun

Today’s your day
So laugh and play
Before tomorrow
Steals away.

Tuesday, June 06, 2023

Best Friend

I think of my companions through the years
The wagging tails and furry floppy ears
A gift from someone to humanity?
Just spell DOG backwards and you’ll see.

Monday, June 05, 2023

Ripe

Once, I was sturdy and agile
Now I feel awkward and fragile
Unable to make my nostrils clench
Getting queasy from the stench

Of flesh that has begun to turn
Quite anxious for a chance to earn
Redemption where I’ve been remiss
Before I brave the dark abyss.

Sunday, June 04, 2023

Decency

Endless pursuit
Of a point that’s moot
Is just like being a crusty old boot
That makes one’s face
A dancing place
So always try to lead with grace.

Saturday, June 03, 2023

Multiplicity

It’s three thirty three
Oh woe is me
I heard bad things
Come in three
Or was it good things?
I'm not sure
If so can’t wait
For four forty four.

Recycle

Look at the debris
Of this society
Everything is centered around pleasure
If we don’t agree
On a cleaner way to be
The misery will be too much to measure.

Downshift

Adjustments made
To clear the curve
Make sure the grade
Won’t cause a swerve.

Wednesday, May 31, 2023

Throttled

When cruising and you find
You’re stuck behind the slower kind
Just keep this in mind:

If you gun the gas
So you can make a pass
You could wipe out on someone’s grass

And quickly end your trek
Everything a wreck
With wifey's hands around your neck.

Tuesday, May 30, 2023

Dug In

Instant grump
Because a stump
Said you can’t
Where I would plant
It snagged my craw
I grabbed my saw
And tried my best
To toss this guest
A futile quest
Now I rest.

Memorialized

We celebrate the brave
And everything they gave
Far too many paid the price
With painful sacrifice

They march by and wave,
We celebrate the brave
With little flags and a parade
While they recall the raid

That brought about the end
Of more than one friend.
We celebrate the brave
By leaving flowers at a grave

One day every year
When we thank those still here
For freedoms they helped save—
We celebrate the brave.

Unspeakable

For most, words don’t mean much
But you remember what you said
And now you’re overwhelmed with such
Remorse because they’re really dead.

Saturday, May 27, 2023

Harmonious

The church bells rang
Which sparked a pang
Of guilt for having stayed away
But then I felt
An urge and knelt
So I could humbly pray
With a likewise vibrant tone
Humility in every bone
And as the heavens glowed above
I was redeemed by God’s great love.

Fact Checked

“Should I be reviled?”
He asked me, then smiled,
“For telling folks what they must know?”
His eyes had the glint
Of deceit, and a hint
Of arrogance, which made distrust grow.

When on my TV
This guy seemed to be
Professional and somewhat sincere
But here, face to face
There wasn’t a trace
Of kindness beneath the veneer

As is my way
I bid him “Good day.”
He said, “Can’t go until we agree.”
Then continued to glare
His petulant stare
I laughed and said “That’s news to me!”

Cosmology

Last night Mars stood beneath
The moon, his visage fierce
As though his sword had left the sheath
The blade poised to pierce—
Why do the otherworldly sort
Like to spar for sport?

Wednesday, May 24, 2023

Wishful

Occasionally I have no snafus
And think did my luck finally turn?
Two minutes later chaos ensues
You’d think by now I’d learn.

Tuesday, May 23, 2023

In Orbit

Venus was under the weather
And beneath the moon as well
But the glow when they’re together
Made it hard to tell

Mars was dimly lurking
Planning his next attack
The moon just kept on smirking
Its heart so cold and black.

Monday, May 22, 2023

Compound

The synthesis of conformity
Is when the vast majority
Seem anxious to deny
The right to question why.

Sunday, May 21, 2023

Exult

When life’s nonstop
And you’re ready to drop
Here’s your choice:
You can flip or flop

Either sink with the drowned
Or reach solid ground
The buoyant rejoice
So let it resound.

Saturday, May 20, 2023

Stimuli

The buzzz of a bee
The wooosh of a tree
The trilll of birds near
Will tickle my ear

Some red clouds at dawn
Green grass on the lawn
A brilliant blue sky
All capture my eye

The heat of the sun
A breeze softly spun
That tingles my skin
Can touch me within.

Friday, May 19, 2023

Going Places

The faker you are
The farther you go
You ask me how far?
I really don’t know

Such tripe is abhorred
By those who won’t heel
Existing ignored
In the land of the real

It may sound bizarre
But seems to be so
The faker you are
The farther you go.

Thursday, May 18, 2023

Cooked

I know that one can’t pick and choose
But it seems my only good reviews
Are for the food I loathe to cook
Not my nonexistent book
But such has been my path thus far
A little hope, a lot of scar
Now tell me what you want to eat
So my life can be complete.

Wednesday, May 17, 2023

Inertia

How people lie
To get their way.
How people lie?
It’s tough to say.

How people cheat
So they can win.
How people cheat?
They bow to sin.

How people steal
To feed their lust.
How people steal?
When others trust.

How people learn
By being hurt.
How people learn?
With pride inert.

Quantify

How much regret can one feel in a day,
In week, or a life, when it won’t go away?
I never have measured, but all I can say:
even a shred is too much, okay?

Monday, May 15, 2023

Timbre

Be like a tree and grow
Stretch your limbs towards the sky
Grab all the light you can stow
For darkness is ever nearby

Remember to always stand strong
For those that need somewhere to lean
And let the wind whisper its song
Through you to fight the machine.

Sunday, May 14, 2023

Break the Internet

Everybody wants to be somebody
I just wanna be me
I don’t have me too much money
Or an ivy league degree
I’m happy when the skies are sunny
As I just live and let be
Everybody wants to be somebody
I just wanna be me

Everyone is so obsessed
With who’s the worst and who’s the best
And how many likes they can generate
If only they could learn to care
When someone else feels deep despair
Then love would be the content they create.

Saturday, May 13, 2023

Outlier

You watch your own decline
Like a downward trending line
And mutter Everything’s fine

While trying to restart
Desire in your heart
Before you’re off the chart.

Backstroke

When the person that should pull for you
Is constantly pushing you down
There isn’t much that you can do
But swim away before you drown.

Thursday, May 11, 2023

Testament

Money? Everyone wants a share.
Houses? They fall into disrepair,
But heartfelt words will always be there.

When I am gone remember this:
Although my life was oft amiss
The love we shared was truly bliss.

Wednesday, May 10, 2023

Incidental

I never have quite fit
Or been the least bit keen
To filter out the nasty grit
Which fouls the vast machine

It gets into the gears
And clogs up everything
Including unresponsive ears
That can’t hear sirens ring

When warnings indicate
How something isn’t right
Instead, the deaf remain sedate
With danger in plain sight.

Diet

The geometry of bread can be daunting
When sandwich structure matters
One misstep could be haunting
If a perfectly good meal splatters.

Monday, May 08, 2023

Overfed

I'm not as nice as I used to be
And clearly the problem is me
I'm sick of the effrontery

No one takes time to assess
If they’re making more of a mess,
Have I had enough? YES!

Sunday, May 07, 2023

Relentless

The dreams of youth are dated
And slowly pass away
As we spend life frustrated
By ‘The problem of the day’

The trick is: never sacrifice
Your ideal to get by,
Don’t focus on the not-so-nice—
As long as you can, try.

Saturday, May 06, 2023

Perennial

The flower moon
Began to bloom
In search of a bouquet
No decolletage
Could hold this corsage
The perfect posy for may.

Friday, May 05, 2023

Notice

The emerald grass
Waves as I pass
While sparkles of dew
Make everything new

Then boisterous birds
Sing without words
And I hum along
A harmonious song

With a long sigh I let
Go of regret
Acknowledge the blades,
Start fresh escapades.

Thursday, May 04, 2023

Dilemma

Above, jets proceed
Down here, I concede
Somewhere in the middle
Is the breathing room I need

Without, grind won’t stop
Within, ground to stop
I've got to solve the riddle
Of restarting not to flop.

Wednesday, May 03, 2023

Paddle

We’re all in this together
Now where have I heard that before?
Oh yeah, it was last time the weather
Made us question if we’d get to shore
Now hand me a bloody oar

If everyone helps with rowing
We just might make a good stand
But I can tell we are slowing
Because some won’t soil a hand
Though they’ll be first on land.

Tuesday, May 02, 2023

Nightscape

The clouds are dark and swirled
Like eddies in the night
And I find myself immersed

In the wonders of the world
That tickle my delight
Until my mood's reversed.

Monday, May 01, 2023

Mayday

This vessel’s going down
I feel that I may drown
The waves are capped with white
No matter how I fight
They keep surrounding me
And though I love the sea
Beneath a heavy frown
This vessel’s going down.

Sunday, April 30, 2023

Poise

There is nobody who
Can ever really do
What you can do for you

They claim they’re on your side
But all they do is chide
So arrogantly snide

Just focus on what’s right
And always use your height
To stay above the fight.

Saturday, April 29, 2023

Right of Way

No one cares who they obstruct
They simply block your path
But you are wrong if you conduct
Yourself with righteous wrath

Every time I think I see a way
Something blocks me
Every time I have something to say
Someone mocks me
I do my best to just show up and play
And it shocks me
No one sees the angst I keep at bay

Each day becomes an exercise
In learning how to steer
Around the endless compromise
That drives the vexed to veer.

Friday, April 28, 2023

Bashful

Orion's just shy
(from lacking brilliance)
of fading for the summer,
the sun is still high
when he makes his entrance
by night he's a goner.

Thursday, April 27, 2023

Corker

The vine has conquered many it seems
From sturdy trees to those with dreams
Destroying limbs and roots and lives
On others loss this species thrives

Insidious by how it clings
And the cursed fruit it brings
The vine has crushed so many it’s true
Never let it ruin you.

Third Person

Bobby do this
Bobby do that
Bobby’s about
To just go splat
I need another me
Or three begat
To keep me from
Dropping flat.

Tuesday, April 25, 2023

Bail

The indiscrete
That haunt my street
Are less-than-sweet

Their words are foul
They fiercely scowl
And proudly prowl

This little slice
Was once so nice
But now we mice

Are trapped by laws
That aid the cause
Of those with claws.

Monday, April 24, 2023

Boom!

I'm feeling rather vexed
The fascist system flexed
And now it’s got me wondering
What the crooks plan next

We voted full of trust
They gave us the unjust
Intent on petty plundering
To feed their every lust

It’s time to take a stand
And force their filthy hand
Let there be a thundering
Of truth across this land!

Sunday, April 23, 2023

Arpeggiate the Day

Another dismal day?
Not if you can play
Just pick any major key
And pick your blues away

For music truly heals
And oftentimes reveals
The individuality
Conformity conceals.

Saturday, April 22, 2023

Ageism

Regeneration is currently on pause
The consequence of Nature’s ancient laws
And no authority exists to hear an appeal
It seems, as they say, things just got real.

Friday, April 21, 2023

Sobering

No matter how depressed I get
I’ll never ask for a pill
That makes me numb to my regret
By weakening my will
I chose to cause my own distress
It’s up to me to face the mess.

Thursday, April 20, 2023

Modifier

When people just keep taking
How much should you give?
The fault is in mistaking
How to serve with how to live

If all is given gladly
There can be no servitude
You won’t take things so badly
For love will set the mood.

Wednesday, April 19, 2023

Backed Up

I think I finally hit the wall
Exhausting any gas
But the most annoying pain of all
Is this brick stuck in my ass

Tuesday, April 18, 2023

Wishing

I’m melancholy today
Remembering the way
We used to share a cake
For convenience sake
Despite the day and week
Between. You’d kiss my cheek
And let me blow the candles out
While everyone would shout
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
I miss you Kay.
Should have wished for time to stop
A cigarette that wouldn’t drop
A life that wouldn’t turn to shit
I miss you Mom, guess that’s it.

Monday, April 17, 2023

Sliding

When you live to serve
Sometimes your verve
Is short on length
Just pray for strength
On every curve
That tests your nerve.

Sunday, April 16, 2023

Germinating

Beneath the budding trees
In a cool spring breeze
I feel the sprouting of creative ways

and suddenly I’m flush
with the preternatural rush
of searching for a thought, a word, a phrase.

Saturday, April 15, 2023

Litterbugs

If I knew any magic
I would surely cast a spell
To make the lives of those who toss
Their garbage living hell

I'd enchant their litter
To stir and come alive
Then follow the offender back
To their cluttered dive

With mandibles of plastic
And eyes of cellophane
They’d overwhelm the messy slobs
Intent on causing pain

And torture them with fervor
Until they’re forced to vow
To never mar the land again—
I would if I knew how.

Friday, April 14, 2023

Try Me

Another day defeated
Refusing to give in
No cause to be conceited
No drive to try and win
The times when I competed
I took it on the chin
And now I’m near depleted
But always ready *grin*.

Thursday, April 13, 2023

Catchy

The birds begin the day
By twittering away
I whistle right along
Not sure of what I say

With every lilting trill
I feel a little thrill
Nothing like communal song
To reinforce God’s will

And I’m hoping, as your host
That this idyllic post
Is one the sadly jaded throng
Enjoys the most.

Wednesday, April 12, 2023

Uncelebrated

No balloons or confetti
No streamers or the like
Just warmed up old spaghetti
In an old thrumming mic

Then, perhaps some frosted
Cake and strawberry ice cream
I seem to have exhausted
Any semblance of esteem.

Tuesday, April 11, 2023

Belly Up

Birthday cake for breakfast?
I ‘figure’ might as well
My skinny waist is long past
So what the hell!

Monday, April 10, 2023

Reciprocity

On the day of my birth
I ponder my worth
Despite my purse's
Lack of girth

I fancy some mirth
On the day of my birth
A smile reverses
My current dearth

From my humble berth
To the rest of the earth
I offer these verses
On the day of my birth.

Sunday, April 09, 2023

Bloomers

When Lily is blooming
her dewy white skin
means spring is resuming
(much to winter’s chagrin)

She’s graceful and slender
and inspires respect
her mercies are tender
as one might expect,

with soft flowing garments
she’s the Belle of the bed
reminding all the varmints
Don’t lose your head!

Saturday, April 08, 2023

Front Man

Yes, you’re great, you told me so
Right before you ruined the show
By reaching for more than you can achieve
As people shake their heads and leave

If you were as good as you think you are
It’s possible you’d be a star
Instead of just an average ham
That actually believes the sham.

Friday, April 07, 2023

Forbearance

As we counter those who push and shove
We overlook the love,
While dodging hits throughout the fray
We tend to lose our way
When seeking shelter from lethal rounds
Antipathy abounds
The trick is learning to pardon those
Who feel they are our foes.

Thursday, April 06, 2023

Going

The red light racers gun the gas
And try their best to make a pass
But even if they get the green
They’re still inside a death machine.

Wednesday, April 05, 2023

Labyrinth

A hedonist of hardy stock
But now he was consumed
With finding some way to unlock
Another course less doomed
Determined jut upon his chin
He'll face the boss and win!

Tuesday, April 04, 2023

Wishlist

They say if you write down your goal
Your chances increase to succeed,
A skeptic at heart, I cajole
Myself to have hope, and proceed:

I wish to be somebody free
That isn’t coerced to compete
Awash in the love that could be
If selfishness met its defeat.

Monday, April 03, 2023

Rezero

These ingots of deliciousness
The price I pay for years of bliss
Where all I did was puff and sip
Now I sit here snip snip snip
The balance seems askew to me
I didn’t account for irony.

Sunday, April 02, 2023

Nobody

What must be done
Is just no fun
Thus your attempt
To stay exempt
Oh foolish one

You cannot shirk
Required work
And then expect
Your due respect
So can the smirk

Too late you learned
What must be earned
Is worth the pain
If you abstain
You will be spurned.

Saturday, April 01, 2023

Teetering

I know your breakfast was ruined
But please get off the ledge
And next time don’t butter your pancake
So close to tables edge.

Friday, March 31, 2023

Rerun

With each static day
The outcome's more gray
Much like a vintage black and white TV
Regardless where I hit
It’s just the same old shit
The universe regurgitates for me
I’ve had about all I can take
The time has come for a station break.

Thursday, March 30, 2023

Fusion

In the heat of a sun
We command
An exploration that’s never done,
In the heat of a sun
We expand.

From the light of a star
We derive
How far away our neighbors are,
From the light of a star
We survive.

Overkill

I tried to date it back
only a day you see
but gave it such a whack
it jumped a month -- weeee!

Tuesday, March 28, 2023

Vindictive

I learned long ago how to be
If not happy — at least carefree
And it bothers those who are prone
To constantly piss and moan
For their type really hate to see
Someone stand on their own.

Monday, March 27, 2023

Bristled

I always try my best to not complain
Until I can no longer take the strain
Compelled to confess my life’s a joke
A bear I recommend you never poke.

Sunday, March 26, 2023

Acknowledgement

I love to hear the songbirds sing
Their lilting madrigal of grace
When heralding the start of spring,

The morning air will brightly ring,
A tired pulse picks up its pace.
I love to hear the songbirds sing

It means my cheeks no longer sting
As old man winter smacks my face.
When heralding the start of spring

The robins and the sparrows fling
Themselves into the frantic race.
I love to hear the songbirds sing

And every noise they tend to bring
It means we’re all still in the chase.
When heralding the start of spring

Within our minds we’re reckoning
How many more we’ll relish in this place.
I love to hear the songbirds sing
When heralding the start of spring.

Decimated

Mathematics or geometry
Numbers or the shapes we see
Which is better? Don’t ask me
My area is poverty.

Friday, March 24, 2023

Antithesis

When I briefly believed I belong
I fraternized with the throng
And did my best to get along

Until I became too aware
That most people just don’t care
And I knew I didn’t share

A bond that was all that strong
Revealing how I was wrong
When I briefly believed I belong.

Thursday, March 23, 2023

Versifier

I’m not qualified whatsoever
Far from eloquent or clever
Misunderstood by mice and men
But I have my moments every now and then.

Wednesday, March 22, 2023

Hospitable

The grackles have come back
And cackle for a snack
I offer up stale bread
One nods a blue green head
And as it swoops to snatch its meal
I smile at the warmth I feel.

Tuesday, March 21, 2023

Deflation

Another plan awry
another heavy sigh
another aching sore
a heavy sigh once more

I long for some success
but life is one big mess
I wish that I could buy
another. Heavy sigh.

Monday, March 20, 2023

Untangled

Everywhere I see failure
Is everywhere I’ve been
It seems to be my nature
A misfit among men

I can’t pretend I’m bothered
By disapproving stares
And thus I've blithely squandered
Opportunities to spare

And everyday the ruins
Of past defeats remind
A chump whose luck is truant
don’t get too entwined.

Sunday, March 19, 2023

Groovy

Roots require room to spread
So put some rocks in your flowerbed
To help your blooms offset the stress
You could say they are stoned I guess.

Saturday, March 18, 2023

Pass

He was into racing
She wasn’t into chasing
And slowly disappeared in his mirror

He thought she was lonely
But found she was only
Teasing, but didn’t want him nearer

Sometimes a reflection
Can show a new direction
Just a little bit clearer.

Friday, March 17, 2023

Overdue

Tulips transplanted
May struggle to rise
Until they’re emboldened
By winter’s demise
Completely enchanted
As Robin’s reprise
Makes them beholden
To bright sunny skies.

Thursday, March 16, 2023

Propagate

The days just disappear
Another wasted year
Decades come and go
I wish it wasn’t so.

Reluctance breeds regret
For those who don’t forget
But such is life, although
I wish it wasn’t. Sow!

Wednesday, March 15, 2023

Indefatigable

My teeth are failing
My back is ailing
And any drive I have’s curtailing

Though blows are varied
Somehow I've parried
And won't give up until I’m buried.

Tuesday, March 14, 2023

Grave

If you steal a spade
Have you dug your own grave?
Well the pride displayed
Makes your soul tough to save.

Miscalculation

With nary a flake
The storm was a yawn
The forecast: Predictable groan.

Another mistake
Revealed by the dawn
With mountains to shovel alone.

How often we ache
When judgements are drawn
Before the conclusion is known.

Irreparable

The damage done
In the name of fun
Won’t be much
Forgive the pun

You hear the rasp
With every gasp
Still with such
Resolve you grasp.

Renovation

The temple’s falling faster
Due to sagging beams
A little paint and plaster
Makes it better than it seems
With a ringing Stratocaster
And a hint of youthful dreams.

Depth

When roots are near the surface
There isn’t too much purchase
And anything that’s growing could be felled

You need a sturdy anchor
For facing nature’s rancor
And staying straight until the storm is quelled

So don’t just be a skimmer
Dig deep to see a glimmer
Of hope that any ills will be dispelled.

Pro Hemp

Your plasticity is such
You seem inorganic
And babble so much
It’s painfully manic

The lies that you tell
Might get you elected
But won’t serve you well
Once gallows are erected.

Coming Up

This time Venus made a pass
As Jupiter stood by
Despite discrepancies in mass
Her beauty lit the sky

But soon Orion stole the show
Entering stage right
His shining outline all aglow
To dominate the night

Until a radiance began
To obstinately spar
Against the dark, a true hypeman
Of the up and coming star.

Gary's Gone with the Wind

He could really pick
And play a soulful slide
But now there’s just a click
The spotlight put aside

Their songs will stand the test
Of time, no surprise
Those boys were the best
The last Freebird flies.

Tough

Does steak still have the stink
Of the slaughterhouse when pink
Is that why so many like it rare?

Well I don’t crave a whiff
Of those beyond that cliff
As it is, I’ll soon enough be there.

Sunday, March 05, 2023

Cold Snap

The snow can quickly tax a limb
To leave it rent asunder
And make a day turn extra dim
If chancing to walk under.

Saturday, March 04, 2023

Flashy

What does a photo frame
A moment or a scene?
Well time is a concocted claim
So that can only mean
It’s a memory to treasure
Regardless of the measure.

Friday, March 03, 2023

Flaking

I’m shoveling snow
And every crow
Is laughing as I fling
These freaking flakes pell mell
And maniacally yell
“Where the hell are you Spring?!”

Thursday, March 02, 2023

Lucked Out

I’ve been fortunate to duck
Most duties that I dread
But now I feel stuck
Like losing my tread
In a marsh full of muck
And it seems instead
There’s an oncoming truck
Dead ahead.

Wednesday, March 01, 2023

Sloped

Those with big loads
And little consideration
Clog the self-checkout lines

And out on the roads
There’s much consternation
Despite the informative signs

You could say it bodes
Ill for civilization
But every empire declines.

Unconfirmed

I keep waiting for some change to occur
To give me the life I prefer
But the only way that will ever be
Is if it begins with me,
And I feel passion stir.

I keep hoping to see tomorrow unfold
With something tangible to hold
But not materialistically
More An affirmation, see
I'd like to know before I’m old.

Disavowed

Everything and everyone
Is fake and I believe I’m done,
I no longer want to be
Awash in the hypocrisy
Of those so disingenuous
Their scripted words are meaningless.

Sunday, February 26, 2023

Unenlightened

I laid there, each night, in the dark
Contemplating my nascent spark,
Uncertainty became the norm
For my rapidly expanding form.

Through faith and folly I explored
The world and learned to sheathe my sword
As war means death for either side,
Why destroy to feed your pride?

As years ensued I never found
A reason to be called renowned
And still I ponder, in the dark
is it simply one big lark?

Admiration

Numbered days
Endless nights
It never pays
To seek delights

Open arms
Shuttered heart
Beware the charms
Forbidden art.

Friday, February 24, 2023

Playability

The closer you get to the show
The more your nerves let you know
But once those tubes start to glow
The music is certain to flow—
When every chord rings true
Then harmony will ensue.

Thursday, February 23, 2023

Meager

All my under achieving
And lazy self deceiving
Has got me where I am today
Just barely still believing

A dream once so alluring
That it was worth enduring
The pointless things I did for pay
In hopes of it occurring.

Autonomy

Men, remember—the way they told you to be
Is not how to act if you’re free
The bonds that tend to restrict
Are those the weak self-inflict.

Tuesday, February 21, 2023

Things of Such Kind

Is freedom a thing of the past?
We once were free men
Were we truly the last?

Has honor been left far behind?
I miss way-back-when
And things of such kind.

Lachrymose

A decade and a half
My life’s still a laugh
But each day I valiantly try
To not give in
And moisten my chin
With tears I could easily cry

Those pictures I saw
Have left me raw
It feels I was hit by a bus
And though the tears flow
I want you to know
You were the best Mom to us.

Sunday, February 19, 2023

Squeeze

Tomorrow isn’t given
The past is just a sigh
That’s why the sage are driven
To milk each tick gone by

There is no magic potion
Or condition to extend
The chaos and commotion
When it’s time to end

So make the most of living
Love strong and never stop
Enrich yourself by giving
And savor every drop.

Saturday, February 18, 2023

Kindliness

Is everything pleasurable sin?
Not exactly what I call a win/win
But duty to the insufferable horde
Can be it’s own reward.

Friday, February 17, 2023

Unplugged

When the fittings disconnect
Your body spasms hard
Much more than you'd expect
Dependence leaves one scarred

As the simulation reverts
Your mind rejects the scene
Reality really disconcerts
Those freed from the machine

But the wounds they inflict
Will heal, and when that’s so
Teach more to contradict
And perhaps we’ll grow.

Thursday, February 16, 2023

Extremism

When you’re starving
I will feed you
With whatever I can spare
While you’re carving
Through my feed to
See whose views I share.

They’re disarming
When they read you
Their deceptions meant to scare,
Is it alarming
I won’t cede to
All the lies? I simply care.

Wednesday, February 15, 2023

Incentive

When you work with a shit-head
Don’t ever boohoo
Unless you want your duties
Multiplied by two.

Tuesday, February 14, 2023

Occluded

There’s a mist to the west
That sits on the crest
Of a darkened horizon’s heart

A thick grayish cloud
That looks like a shroud
Hiding secrets to never impart

With luck it’ll disperse
Before it gets worse
As sunset is destined to start.

Monday, February 13, 2023

Chain of Custody

Should anthems instill
A sense of pride?
Well, here’s a black pill:
Your handlers lied,
And here’s another: It isn’t brave
Continuing to be a slave.

Sunday, February 12, 2023

Chump

How long can a minute last—
How many timeouts have you got?
And don’t forget the zany cast
Of your favorite advert spot

But if you can predict the spread
You just might make a score
A tasty bit of extra bread
(until you bet some more).

Saturday, February 11, 2023

Payoff

The stage is set, the players rehearsed
With an audience that’s completely immersed
And if the first act doesn’t make sense
Let’s hope the plot gives recompense.

Endless Sea

If I tried to count the tears
I've cried since you left me
the numbers, like the tears
would form an endless sea,

waves of pain and fearful tides
would dash upon the shore
as memories of empty lies
drown me with remorse.

***The last 5 posts are poems I had on another site for years but it seems to be gone now so I figured I'd put them here. Many of the original files are in an older file format and I am having trouble finding an app that will read them, I guess it's a case of antiquated code for anachronic verse 😆. Oh well time to get working on fresh stuff, a new chapter you could say, are you reading me?***

The New Dark Ages

Pollution, retribution,

endless problems, few solutions.

We watch our souls regressing,

as our minds seek evolution.

Starvation, hostile nations,

people pray for their salvation,

while each day brings the world

one step closer to devastation.

Strategic defense, higher rents,

global leaders exude incompetence,

but still the people follow

ignoring common sense.

Ideologies, philosophies,

fanatical theologies,

strive to bring the accepted order

crumbling to its knees.

Gilded cages, violent rages,

we're victims of the war ‘progress’ wages,

as we plunge ourselves ever deeper

into the New Dark Ages.

Sea of Dreams

I've a heart full of hope
To sustain my soul
And a sea full of dreams to navigate
Imbued with the strength
Of unfaltering conviction
My volatile fears soon evaporate.

The Soul of a Man

The soul of a man is a delicate thing
Fraught with imperfections galore
Hopefully opposite flaws cancel out
Leaving virtue a bit in the more

Much has been said of this most holy vessel
That houses our love and our faith
Yet no one has ever proved it exists
It seems little more than a wraith

But each of us knows somewhere deep inside
There’s a fire burning savagely bright
That tells us to go when it seems like the end
And won’t let us give up the fight.

The soul of a man, what a wondrous thing
So complex and sublime
May the love of God bless each one
From now till the end of time.

The Darkness

I loved her more than she could know
with care beyond concern
I needed her as life's sweet breath
might cause my soul to yearn.

Without her near my shadow played
alone on empty ground
without her heart the darkness came
and to this day abounds.

Tween

Every day goes by so fast
That sometimes we lose track
But love is always sure to last
Unlike our favorite snack—
A bowl of soup, a fine repast
And now, when looking back
I can’t tell what is more vast
Our time to love, or the time we lack.

Saturday, February 04, 2023

Corporeal

Will I choose death or download for my soul
Initialized for darkness to control?
I'll meet the end with dignity and grace
And pray I’ll see our Saviour's shining face.

Catching Up

I’m not the most disciplined guy
And I’m never the first to comply
The only things I’m prone to do
Are dream and wonder – Why

And that which I tend to eschew
Are those that can’t see what’s true
But when they can no longer deny
The facts, we'll talk anew.

Toasted

The amber nectar flows
like words the muses send
and scotch (as everyone knows)
is best when shared with friends.

Wednesday, February 01, 2023

Hog

Anemic flabby bacon?
You must be mistaken
I want my pig to crunch when I bite

Relax and let the oven
Do its special lovin’
So I can satisfy my appetite.

Stone Cold

I think I’m done attempting to alert
Those convinced it’s best to be inert
If they can’t see that now's the time to act
They’re already dead, and that’s a fact.

Monday, January 30, 2023

Refresh

If you will
You might
If you won’t
Goodnight

If you can
Should you?
If you can’t
Start new.

Deprived

I heard a vapid girl today
Exclaim with smug aplomb
That she was sure religion was a hoax

I guess she never learned to pray
Or felt the soothing calm
That loving God wholeheartedly evokes.

Saturday, January 28, 2023

Intractable

Rebellious souls can be
The worst ones to set free
For either way they'll plot
To take the apex spot
And pride to that degree
Will surely get you shot.

Slippery

The winter sky grows bleaker every day,
that front which vexed those in another state
has made it quite belligerent and gray
and very few look forward to their fate.
If only we had heeded the reports
that indicated treacherous terrain
we might have been concerned when out of sorts
became a road we couldn’t quite maintain.
Remember: if you must, deploy a flare
to indicate you’ve had a little hitch,
reduce your speed to dodge the dark despair
of winding up in some deserted ditch—
We live our lives (for the most part) alone,
until we are one, with the great unknown.

Dedicated to Pat, see you on the other side brother.

Indifferent

Groomed for success
Or a mid-life mess?
I curtly confess:
Couldn’t care less.

Wednesday, January 25, 2023

Alternatives

You think it’s okay to cheat
But keep ingesting defeat,
Perhaps try an honorable style
To win once in a while.

Do you have a tendency to lie
And wonder why your life goes awry?
Maybe shoot for honesty instead
Enough said!

Cyclical

Daffodils abound
Their golden faces vibrant
Meadows burn with life—

What was green has browned
As gentle winds turn violent
And cut like a knife—

Crystals dampen sound
To brave the cold is valiant
Slosh and slog through strife—

Barren muddy ground
Should soon be nice and verdant
Robin seeks a wife.

***Well it’s been a while since I explained a poem but this one compels me to. A post for a contest came up in my feed which didn’t specify an entry fee, so I figured why not. It’s one or four haiku(s) about the 4 elements, easy enough, so to give it a little more depth I rhymed the first lines, the last lines and the middle line I ended with variations of words that begin with V and end in T, and I also included the four seasons. When I went to enter it the entry fee reared its greedy head and I said, oh well guess it goes on the blog, so hope you enjoy 😉. ***

Aperture

Celluloid semblance
Of innocent joy
Developed to demons
Dark forces deploy

Gloss of our gladness
Overshadowed by shame
The model of madness
A fraudulent frame

Portrait of posers
Inverted inside
Excessive exposure
Width growing wide.

All Heart

How do you derive
The thrill on which you thrive
Or should you satisfy your soul
In order to survive

Will your driving thrust
Be lathering your lust
When true compassion makes you whole
As love ensures it must.

Rumination

Everyone enjoys a healthy meal
And though I’d never tell you how to feel
Or insist on what you should do
Here’s something on which you can chew:

Reflections of a friend I used to know
Make me sad that it was time for him to go
And every time I think of him I smile
We’re only here for a little while

So tell someone you love them if you do
And if you don’t, that’s entirely up to you
But mark my words, someday you’ll have to face
You could have made the world a better place

Yes love can heal whatever wounds you’ve got
You should try giving it a shot
You’ll find that it’s the only way to live
Oh and by the way, don’t forget to forgive.

Friday, January 20, 2023

Restrained

If everything is upside down
Stand on your head
If living tends to make you frown
Try being dead
When common sense succumbs to lies
Prepare to rant
When shackled, will you feign surprise?
You know you can’t.

Thursday, January 19, 2023

Determinant

Does the absence of love mean hate
Or just one that fails to relate
It's tough to say
But either way
Neither choice is great.

Is the lack of trust a curse
Or overprotecting your purse
Or is it the due
Of someone who
Knows things can always get worse.

Wednesday, January 18, 2023

Unrealized

The crows went mute in unison
As blackness overtook the sun
Then someone said, “I think we’re done.”

And though I prayed it wasn’t so
A lone concern began to grow
could this be the final show?

A coldness crept inside of me
And sadness for the loss, you see,
What may have been will never be.

Tuesday, January 17, 2023

Departed

The clouds look like a ribcage of an otherworldly beast
That’s stretched across the never-ending sky
Which fades away to gray above the treetops to the east
A remnant of an age that had to die.

Monday, January 16, 2023

Fretless

To make a string
Expertly sing
You have to sacrifice one thing

A bit of skin
But you will grin
Once giddy from the groove you’re in

So don’t delay
To get this way
You have to play and play and play.

Sunday, January 15, 2023

Ringers

I sped with shredded fingers
The ringing echo lingers
Sometimes even into the next day
But despite the dead spots
From having crusty pots
We crude rambunctious singers
Turned out to be bringers
Of joy, through music we robustly play.

Saturday, January 14, 2023

Reverent

Is piety achievable
At this point in my corruption?
I like to think it believable
And pray without interruption.

Friday, January 13, 2023

Translucency

It’s best to view the world
Through a window with no blind
For how could one write about
Something they keep tuning out?
They’d never find the words
Without a pane well shined.

Thursday, January 12, 2023

To Be Brief

So much to say
I post each day
A less-than-grandiose display

That’s plainly terse
It could be worse
But thankfully I feel adverse

To such an outlay
It doesn’t pay
When no one reads it anyway.

Wednesday, January 11, 2023

Bothersome

Should I live in unabashed denial
of all my faults? Nah, not my style
but those that do seem to succeed (I guess)
depending upon how you define success.

If someone gives you what you’re begging for
so they don’t have to hear you anymore
should you brag about your victory?
It really doesn’t seem too cool to me.
