Marathon

We're in this for the long haul
but most are getting tired
of maliciously inspired
attempts to end it all

with every passing mile
another pointless death
we try to catch our breath
but we're losing to the vile

and though we feel unsure
we've got to somehow shove
the race to be for love
in order to endure.

Though we are tired, we have got to keep on running ~ We can't back out due to fear ~

Happy Sunday ~

We really have to keep keeping on, don't we? We just have to...... Points well made here!

This is something I often think about - I wish life was about more than endurance.

You have said it all to perfection - the race must always be for love.

a solid and powerful metaphor - tragic, timely, and timeless

Poignant and timely. (as usual)

In the third verse did you mean "shove" or did you intend "show"

Bob,

A very timely poem, concerned perhaps with recent events....The race between bad and good. Always being on the state of alert. Wondering why it must be so, no matter where it happens.
Hopefully the world desire to see peace win, can offer some hope.
Best wishes,
Eileen:)

Thanks everyone, if only it wasn't inspired by true events.

Ollie you humble me *blush*

Stormcat - I meant shove as in push, not just our day to day races but the human race, towards love (I have OCR - obsessive compulsive rhyming)

Hey Jennifer, I tried to leave some comments at your blog but my google+ won't work so I wanted to tell you - nice writing! ;-)
