Knowing Parts

I know that things are changing
As to how we all are seen
And I've witnessed styles ranging
From obnoxious to obscene
But if your hair is in a bun

Drifting

With each unremarkable day
my moorings are losing their grip,
I feel myself slipping away

the fibers are starting to fray
as I disconnect from the slip
with each unremarkable day

and drift towards the unending gray.
Most think it a lighthearted quip
'I feel myself slipping away'

but it's truer than I care to say
while forfeiting starch from my lip
with each unremarkable day

and trying my best to belay
this less-than-enjoyable trip.

and though I would much rather stay
my vessel has begun to dip--

Posthumous

My memories leave me hollow
like the crumbling shell that stands
a monument to shallow
sycophants with greedy hands

there's no one more complacent
than a fool who's satisfied
until they lie adjacent
to the rest who never tried.

Caesura

There are those who hang on every word you say
and some that wish you would just go away
I seem to be meeting the latter today

so graciously I shall desist
from asking if you get my gist
and humbly as I can -- exist.

Regulated

I'm just another car
in a long unending line
that never gets too far
we're governed by design

Determination

I put on my face
to enter the race
then pray for my portions of gravy and grace
and though I may tire
I will face the fire
or risk the demise of my one true desire

Undeniable

The only thing you can't achieve
is what you fear to try
it's tough to fail when you believe
that nothing can deny

your spirit when it sets a goal
or heart as it incites
your will to satisfy your soul
before the final rites.

Limp

I saw tomorrow
in a cripple's gait
and in my marrow
felt the weight
of aching sorrow
that won't abate
the line is narrow
twixt folly and fate

Suppressed

She thought of all the drugs she'd need to make it through the day
Decongestant, analgesic and some she wouldn't say
Along with one to keep destructive stomach juice at bay
When asses (as they tend to do) begin to loudly bray.

*squirm*

By the light of a street lamp I saw
a spider creep into the craw
of a crabapple tree on its web
as the summer sun started to ebb

and shadows began to unite
becoming the framework of night
encompassing all as we crawl
inexorably towards the fall.

Askance

The mirror and I were never friends
but at least we could see eye to eye
now my sagging resilience descends
while I look away and just sigh.

Reality TV

Pandora called to vent about
her box's glaring lack
of morals and began to shout
until they answered back

"It seems to us the problem's there
and not our glut of smut
if you don't like the filth we air
then keep your peepers shut!"

Goodness

To write about life you must live it
To understand love simply give it
To profit from pain you must bear it
To make a gain meaningful share it.

Forging

Decay and death surround me
contrivances confound me
while I endeavor simply to exist
my means are less than meager
my outlook not so eager
but still I raise a fierce defiant fist

I will continue trying
to keep my dream from dying
despite the drudgery I can't avoid
these chains are not in fashion
and can’t restrain my passion
in order for success to be enjoyed

Count on It

I don't care one iota
about your quota
so please just go take a hike
for I'm extending
one number unbending
though it's not the digit you'd like.
