People before us were prone
to customs more savage than ours
relying completely on stone
or gods with unspeakable powers
and watching the heavens for hours
but how could they know to the day
when things would go awfully awry
unless they were blessed with (let's say)
a degree of insight as to why
we're currently leaning that way.
