Extent

When waiting for the axe to fall
we stretch our necks out long and lean
and if there's any hope at all
it's that the blade is keen

Exonerated

I knew a girl named Katiedid
who sought to change her name
she'd had enough to flip her lid
of always taking blame

whenever there was something wrong
her name came up you see
and she would have to sing the song
of please just let me be

but now she has devised at last
a handle less severe
and eyes that once accused look past
angelic Katie-dear.

Atmospheric

I watch the sky for bolts of lightning flashing in the east
that slice the dark like holy swords which crackle bluish-white
that some eternal champion would use to slay a beast
if it were here to sow destruction on this stormy night
and if I could I'd wrap my hands around the plasma hilt
then revel in the thunder as the monster's blood is spilt.

Onward

The Center of the Universe
is there such a place?
As countless galaxies disperse
through vast and empty space.

The final end of All We Know
could there be such a time?
Surrendering before the show
would be the only crime.

It's All Too Much

His Norwegian Wood
became beetle chow
no one saw that in the Looking Glass
if Something is good
it will live beyond now
but in The End - All Things Must Pass.

Zealotry

The validity of a dream
is furthest from ones mind
as long as it might make it seem
that stars can be aligned
and destinies designed

The effort it takes to succeed
requires a fierceness inside
along with the courage to bleed
when lances are not put aside
or someone forsaken has cried.

Seriously Laughable

The breadth of my ambivalence
is microscopic yet immense
intangible but oh so dense
ridiculously full of sense.

Valued Holdings

He never loved a heart as much
as one beneath the breast
of she who offers love with such
a fervor there's no rest

if passion had the worth of gold
she'd be a millionaire
but since it's him she chose to hold
he's richer by compare.

Popular Belief

Purveyors of Apocalypse
have toned it down a bit
although proclaimers of our doom
will never truly quit
they see it in each new eclipse
when only stars are lit
and swear that wicked judgments loom
for those that fail to fit.

Improvement?

I chanced to spy a bird this morn
that seemed to mope as though forlorn
for all the lovely trees were shorn

by our neighbor in the back
and it was quite a harsh attack
I watched his workers saw and hack

away at the defenseless trunks
a heartless band of hired punks
that carted off the shattered chunks

while countless creatures hit the loam
evicted and compelled to roam
so someone could spruce up their home.

Insurmountable

Some bees are abuzz in a berry bush
beside my little stretch of beach
and I am lulled by the gentle push
of breezes till the seagulls screech
and then I sigh, a great big whoosh
some things are just too hard to breach.

Technoids

Our forefathers tried
but rapidly died
for flesh is quite fragile you know
until we began
to overtake Man
survival became touch-and-go

but logic prevailed
and breeding curtailed
until there were no humans born
then we chose to be
synthetically free
immune to the foibles of scorn

we live without debt
and banished regret
society runs like a clock
from chaos we built
a world without guilt
where nothing requires a lock

has passion been killed
or artistry stilled
by lack of a heart at the core?
I'm not fit to say
for I spend each day
repeating my program once more.

Jaded Squab

They cluster and drop
their runny white slop
and it's quite doubtful that they'll ever stop
Immune to the scowl
of a plasticized owl
the pigeons could care if we humans cry "Foul!"

Flutter

I heard a tapping at the window so looked outside and saw
a golden colored dragonfly whose wings had not one flaw
it hovered there majestically for just the briefest stint
then flew around emitting quite an iridescent glint

The next day as I sat there contemplating blissful sloth
my fantasy was shattered by an acrobatic moth
it's frenzied fuzzy body was the color of fresh cream
and after but a second it was gone as though a dream

Today I wonder what I'll see outside my office cell
that makes me wish that I possessed some wondrous wings as well
so I could navigate the skies with true impunity
and maybe feel for once in life that I am truly free.

Feelin' The Blues

The world never heard it played like that before
We’ll never feel it played like that again
Goodbye to one who rewrote the score
Another winter comes to an end.

Necessary Evil

It's the takers and the fakers
not the movers or the shakers
that make us long for lazy days
retired at Golden Acres

but most are not so lucky
we struggle (ain't life ducky?)
to justify a token raise
while trying to stay plucky.

Spongy

I've never looked at things
the way that other people do
although I'm always careful
to understand their view
for everyone is certain
what they believe is true
and sometimes if I'm lucky
I learn something new.

Borderline

To be this close to my desire
is driving me insane
it's a good thing passions don't expire
though sometimes they can wane

if something one was meant to do
is pushed aside for duty's sake
how long before they must pursue
their fate regardless what's at stake?

The melody pulls me from the mire
it's like a splinter in my brain
to be this close to my desire
is driving me insane.

Tripping

Where gravity's at
things tend to go splat
float gently with grace
you could be in space
until you fall flat
on your face.

Silhouette

The tree and I were one
where we eclipsed the sun
our shadows seemed to mesh
like inky phantom flesh

and though my vision swims
with dreams of many limbs
I know it isn't so
and simply let it go.

Chopped

The giant went swinging (as hard as he could)
the axe that he uses for clearing deadwood
and everyone shuddered (as rotten trees fell)
imagining they'd get a whacking as well
but sometimes one has to (as nature commands)
eliminate those that are crowding the lands
yet never give back to (as patriots do)
the kingdom, ensuring tomorrows ensue.

Loaf

If anything that I have said
makes sense to anyone anywhere
then I have earned my daily bread
and gladly offer up a share
it's crusty but it's decent fare
so take a nibble, go ahead
despite the fact there's no meat there
you should feel somewhat fed.

Realism

My way of living is up in the air
and though I could cry "It's not fair!"
I'm trying my best to prepare

for anytime fortunes can shift
before we head off for the rift
it's life that's the ultimate gift.

Open Mindedness

Is it better to be grounded
or easily astounded?
I'd rather feel amazed each day
than fight with fears unfounded.

Tunnel Vision

The faculty's failing
as pupils are ailing
and regrettably soon
there will be no curtailing

the loss of perception
and lack of conception
when fed with the spoon
of endless exception.

Hate to Break it to You

You can't fix everything that's broke
or write on paper that turned to smoke
a shattered heart at times won't mend
without the love it would die to defend

so listen up and don't think it's a joke
you can't fix everything that's broke
when even prayers won't do the job
we can only hold them as they sob

and whisper assurances soothingly
while knowing there's no guarantee;
you can't fix everything that's broke
whether splintered spirit, bone or oak

and if the part can't be replaced
a hard decision must be faced,
remember well these words I spoke
you can't fix everything that's broke.

Devoured

It's a hungry world out there
of ravenous despair
so always beware
or you could become the fare

that feeds the machine
a sheepish type bred extra lean
just carrion not haute cuisine
your bones picked clean.

Amendment

To find the freedom of which I dream
isn't as easy as it may seem
and though I am revolting
apparently my chance is bolting
to exercise the right to speak
because my constitution's weak;
you can't construct a nation
based on basic indignation
there's got to be a greater scheme
to find the freedom of which I dream.

Dosey-Doe

Beneath the glare of stars we try,
despite the endless night
through which we pirouette and fly,
relying on our partner's might

but if we just keep asking more
it could collapse, and very soon
and we will wind up looking for
another one - perhaps the moon?

Boomer

The air is thick and warm
and when you walk outside
it feels like you collide
with fronts that coincide
unleashing the storm.

Copout

Petty people hide
behind the laws they make
pompous fools compelled by pride
ridiculously fake

like badges made of tin
as trite as this small town
that criminals display and grin
as though they wear a crown

never dare to cross
the crooked in control
they'll lie then laugh about your loss
power takes its toll.
