I fondly remember the semblance of joy
that naively filled me when I was a boy
until all the darkness I managed to find
when dealing with those I was told were my kind
which after repeated exposure began
to make me a wary excuse of a man
alert to the slightest insidious ploy
who fondly remembers a semblance of joy.

I enjoyed the reflective nature of this poem -- the looking back at the naive joy of childhood. I think many go through some kind of turbulence after that, but hopefully come out on the other side....a bit wiser and perhaps more wary. Well crafted poem here!
That's why I don't like to watch tv.
Like your rhyme! :)
This flows beautifully.
The reminiscence here is powerful. And you made me consider how we categorize and marginalize both ourselves and others.
Once you are as old as time - or as old as me, anyway, hee hee - you return to that joy once again. Because everything just becomes utterly hilarious! I enjoyed your poem - and love the title of your blog. Poetry IS everywhere!
'a semblance of joy' - that makes me feel a little sad.
Nice flow to the piece.
Your blog's new look surprised me! I like it and your rhyming flow.
You continue to grow one of the very best poetry sites. Always smooth and awesomely rhymed.
You and me both! Dig this!
it's hard to be male--i have heard
Just feeling a little nostalgic this weekend, but rest assured there is some degree of exaggeration for dramatic effect in this one, thanks for the great comments.
ps - thanks Poet Laundry for noticing my new look, a little makeover to go with the new year :-D
