Tangled

I watched a shifty spider creep intently down its web
to taste a tethered moth five times its size
and every time the frantic creature’s struggles seemed to ebb
that patient rogue snuck closer to the prize.

It’s clear to me we all are caught just like that hapless moth
in silky bonds too tacky to escape
made weaker by convenience that we fail to see as sloth
while dripping fangs approach our tender nape.

I love this. And you're probably right. We're stuck like glue!
