Immediacy

In a flash I knew I loved you
and we started our affair
I was always thinking of you
with your long soft raven hair
and each day I’ve tried to show you
just how much I really care
because in a flash it could all be through
leaving nothing but despair.

Love can be a very painful thing...there certainly are a lot of sad love songs to prove it. :-)
Immediacy....like "fools rush in"...sometimes we are in too much of a rush to be in love, and then in too much of a rush to give up when things get tough. This is truly a poem that many have lived.
Great writing Bob! :-)

I wrote this after watching my poor wife almost get electrocuted by a hand mixer with a frayed cord. I was standing right next to her and there was actually a big flash, a pop, and the breaker blew. Of course after we settled down my mind couldn't help but put it into words. Thanks Carrie for your awesome comments :)

Great poem...I love the slight edge of fear woven into it..you and I both seem to be examining the fleeting quality of life. I read your response to Carrie, and am so glad your wife is okay. Treasure every moment we're given, is my mantra...

Of couse, I enjoyed your play on words on my post, as usual!

this poem reminded me very much of myself, so eager to be in love and when it happened, as quickly as it came it passed away...which leaves me wondering if it was even really love at all. But this is a very sweet poem. Thanks for sharing.

Bob,
This is truly a love-poem. I understand how the 'flash' of inspiration came to you!
I had a near miss myself during Christmas last year, when I too got a shock from a kettle!!

Best wishes,
Eileen

Well thanks Lynette, I don't want to be overly dramatic but it was very scary and it just made me think.

Hey DMK you're welcome, every now and then you have to get a little mushy, it's a requirement for would be poets ;)

Hi Eileen, well thank goodness you're OK so we can enjoy your great writing and lovely personality :)
