I try my best each day
To share the thoughts that start
But would you call it art?
I really couldn’t say
No one would listen anyway.

To watch the sun descend
And know that it could be
The final time you see
The iridescent end—
You pinch each tick you spend.

Loner

There isn’t that much you can do
When you feel you just don’t belong
Either stay low key and muddle through
Or lie to get along

Repeat the same words everyone does
So you can come off as hip
And drink what sells the most because
It’s what the masses sip

Or simply duck the foolish fold
Avoiding all the stink
Of those that do what they are told
But never learn to think.

Guess Again

You think I’m a lush because my nose is red?
I fear you’re a corpse because your brain is dead
I watched my mother grapple with that horrible disease
And you believe I’d go out like that? Puh-lease!

Stacking

Things are getting wild
As civilization falls
They only care about corrupting your child,
Bobbing boobs and balls,

Or luring those from foreign boats
So they can use their names
To help create more shadow votes
And cheat to win the game.

Afterglow

She had a certain glow
Or so some people said
But what they didn’t know
The glow was orange-red

As long as she had butane
And a rock that she could smoke
She couldn’t feel her pain
At least until she was broke

Then she learned to take
New levels of abuse
As long as she could make
Enough to buy some juice

She had a certain glow
As haunting as the moon
Now she’s just a cold Jane Doe
Departed much too soon.

Disproportionate

You champion variety?
Well everyone is unique
If you feel that isn’t diversity
You really shouldn’t speak

Demanding a quota is met
Negates individual choice
And giving the lazy a net
Is never a cause to rejoice.

Good for Your Heart

Well I’ve had my fill
Of every cheap thrill
It tends to get old after a while
But I found something new

I told my doc the news

They took your fragile habitat
And simply dropped it here ker-splat!
In an old abandoned parking lot
While trumpeting their greenness – NOT!

Most Likely to Secede

None of them ever knew
oblivious to someone who
Was never eager for the chance
To mime the same old circumstance
And thus four decades later we
Are told a gathering will be
Assembled so the fake can say
It feels like it was yesterday
With teeth so white it hurts your eyes
Much like their need to utter lies.

Prudence

She lived in a post modern house
On a rambling country estate
And wore her respectable blouse
With a sun hat that wasn’t ornate

It was floppy and faded a bit
But perfectly shaded her face
When mowing the lawn she used it
The picture of civilized grace.

The Show

The greedy cheat and lie
And steal until they die
The righteous, not so much
Unless it’s just a crutch
You never really know
Until their colors show
The shade that they maintain
Reveals if they’re germane.

Blocked

Stare into the small device
He heard within his head
pursue your lust, forget the price,
can't have fun when you’re dead.

He thought about it long and hard
And though he had the urge
Refused to heed a signal marred
By greed, so didn’t splurge

Interior Design

When all you wish for is more to give
You’ve finally learned to live
If your only goal is to help provide
You'll feel good inside.

When it’s time to dig a grave
And no I’m not complaining
But could do without the wave

With every stab into the earth
I blink from all the sweating
It’s sad we wind up here from birth
Redeemable or regretting.

Liveliness

There’s no way to alter
When you will falter
Just pick yourself up and advance
The sun is descending
So quit your pretending
And scramble for every last chance.
