Dress Down

When jade is the bauble preferred
it's time to check ones style
the garish arrogance you gird
will never quite beguile

perhaps a more austere approach
would better suit the scene
so put on your most modest broach
Life's not a magazine.

As a woman, I love clothes and shoes (shoes especially). I don't have many because I'm not wealthy so I wear mostly what I'm given and so I usually look subdued in the way I dress. But it has taught me to be modest (even if it means fading to the back). Life is not about the clothes we wear, it's about the person inside the clothes.

I've never thought much of myself either because of my situation. And in recent times I've discovered that even though my clothes aren't very fashionable or new that men still find me attractive. I don't know why but they do and it's a really new experience for me.

Thank you for this poem. It gives me strength through these hard times. I think your blog is really underrated because you're an amazing writer. :)

Thanks for sharing pensive, it's nice to know not only that something connects, but how and why it does. We always had the cheapest clothes and we were happy as could be. When I felt the peer pressure of high school and bugged my dad for brand names, he told me to get a job and he would go 50/50 with me, been working ever since and wearing generally cheap clothes (which I don't have a lot of). It is all about who you are and what you do, and I can 'see' by your comment why people find you attractive :-)

Thanks for your nice comment too, I've been working really hard!
