Exit Strategy

Sometimes we must walk away
from what we have achieved
because it would be worse to stay
among the self-deceived

who don’t even feel shame
sometimes. We must walk away
from those engrossed in a game
we refuse to ever play,

to their ultimate dismay
as they observe us retreat,
sometimes we must. Walk away
or face eventual defeat

That’s just the way it goes
When narcissistic fools hold sway
As anyone afflicted knows
Sometimes we must walk away.
