It is what it is
I’ve often heard said
Where it refers to something
Better left unsaid
But if you can’t face it
How will it ever change?
Words should solve problems
Before they estrange.

Telling
I never thought my words would find a place
Upon the plinth reserved for works of grace
But hoped to jot a cogent line or two
That maybe made some people say – “Who knew?”

Surreal
Her left eye was very high
The other kind of low
I mulled if I should say goodbye
Or a colorful hello
I told her she looked cool
She nodded, “As a cube,
now be a helpful little fool
and crack another tube.”
I browsed her box of paint
To try and find the hue
That filled in something faint
A one composed of two?

Awkward
“How strangely will the Tools of a Tyrant pervert the plain Meaning of Words!”
~Samuel Adams~
The TV tells me things that don’t make sense
Compelling my compulsion for the fence
But not so I can blithely sit astride
More so for a place to try and hide
Though soon there won’t be anything we’ve got
That isn’t somehow theirs to take. The plot
Is plain yet convoluted to convince
Those who watch the news without a wince.

Upright
Another year to persevere
And help protect what I hold dear
So let me state this loud and clear:
I will not bow to fostered fear.

I will not bow to fostered fear.

Systemic
You can’t sow
without a seed
Or ever grow
gouged by greed
With every blow
they make us bleed
Till all we know
is endless need.

Release
The roman stripes embossed
Upon that hammered clay
Displayed the awful cost
Of vows fulfilled that day
When the stone was rolled away.
The flesh was never lost
Transfigured like a ray
Of light, the Holy Ghost
Relieves what burdens weigh,
Once the stone is rolled away.

Deserted
As I look southward to a distant hill
A gaunt dryad stands tall and still
Enchanting me with unbending will
it’s creaky incantations call
In rattling whispers (thanks to fall)
And all my inhibitions stall
But I have never seen a sign
That there’s a way beyond this pine
So on I drive as pistons whine
With no one left around to lead
It’s pointless to reduce my speed
Approval never was a need.
