Now whether you follow a map
or your own intrepid heart
there’s bound to be some detours on the way
but if you’re too unsure to tap
your strength and make a start
you’ll never get beyond that same old quay.
Release those ropes, trim those sails
and raise your anchor high
while looking just as lively as you feel
a soul with hopes and luck prevails
by keeping passion nigh
like precious cargo deep within their keel.

Yes, this is so true, we never know what we can do, unless we bother to try. Nicely said.
Lovely, especially "precious cargo deep within their keel".
Know what?
I can hear you sing that to the accompaniment of your guitar. Can hear the tune. Nice take on the subject.
Just beautiful...and so true.
Detours add richness to life!
I just experienced a rough few days and your words have definitely lifted my spirit...
Bob,
This is a very full and endearing poem. Very loving:)

A joy to read and a lesson to live life by! Yes, insecurity thwarts many people's journey.
Well said - although, just the reading of it and I'm feeling tired already. Still, I can admire the spirit! I like what you did with the prompt.
I just love the SOUND of this poem, Bob. Beyond that, so true that we just have to keep going, though the road may have its detours. Forging ahead somehow is the only way to live.
RCh - I dig the imagery right from the title!
Hi everybody, wow thanks for your great comments, best response I've had in a while, onward!!
Great advice, Bob. You never know where life will lead unless you try. Sometimes it doesn't work out but the journey is still worth taking. I've learned a lot from my path, with all it's twists and turns and the people I've met. Hopefully I've made less mistakes than I think I have and am a better person for recognising them.
I really love the first line of the second stanza! Very uplifting.. almost felt the wind in my face:-) well done!
Love the metaphor!!!
Thanks Paul, Sara, and Hannah, you all made my week with your great comments!
