Whimsy

I felt some snow drop down on me
And couldn’t help but laugh
For a robin sat there in the tree
A bit sheepish for its gaffe.

“Hey robbie” I said, “What’s the deal,
You know spring is a ways away?”
He looked at me without much zeal
The storm seemed to wreck his day

Beneath his little feather tail
Was a clinging patch of white
He shook and twitched to no avail
And finally took flight.

I hope he finds a nice warm place
To ride this season out
And makes it back in time to grace
This branch when blossoms sprout,

And luckily I’ll be there too
So we can shoot the breeze
And live to laugh and love anew
Before the summer flees.
