Leveled

Will we know
a new plateau
has been attained
or will we go

on even planed
forever reigned
by those that show
how honor’s waned.

Statement

The banal reporter was brief:
“Parents of the shooter express their grief.”
and then their attempt at grace:
“We don’t even know how this took place.”
But I bet they rushed right back to their TV
to find out what their excuse should be.

Pink Lady

I know my surface seems hard
it is compared to yours
but it’s just heavily scarred
from former fruitless wars
where the only lasting damage was
a stone that dreams, but seldom does.

Amidst the smoking aftermath
your tenderness took root
and shaded me from further wrath
while yielding precious fruit
whose luscious bounty beckons me—
oh how sweet that flesh must be.

Omelet

Crack an egg
part the shell
watch it drop
think of hell
boldly beg
things go well
another plop
fears dispel
hungers swell.

Grizzly

Kroager the Ogre
was vile and vulgar
and smelled ten times worse than he looked
his odor exuded
while nose hair protruded
from a beak that was horribly hooked

his teeth were all rotten
his dreams misbegotten
his clothes were attrociously stained
he'd stomp through the village
too plundered to pillage
and scare anyone that remained.

He wasn't just homely
but terribly lonely
and longing for someone to squeeze
his arms were so burly
he made others surly
with hugs that would buckle their knees

until he alighted
on someone delighted
to take all the love he could share
and now he's seen waving
when occasionally shaving
his comrade, a clingy brown bear

Fixer

Every strand within a string
is pulling on a different thing
and all the twists throughout the twine
are often put there by design
for our unraveling,

and furthermore the fiber’s fraught
with catenary that will get caught
wherever there’s a little burr
and then a defect will occur
when it’s pulled taut

but as the ancient shuttle zooms
to interlace both glee and glooms
I’ll try to free up every snag
and help eliminate the drag
whatever looms.

Grounded

The true key to happiness isn’t round
it isn’t square or skeletal or thick
but there does seem to be some kind of trick
initiates perform before it’s found,
their constant smiles enough to make one sick
I mean come on, their joy is that profound
that nothing negative could ever ground
them from their flighty ‘carefree spirit’ shtick?
Well all the bubbly banter in the blue
can’t change the fact that sometimes life goes wrong
regardless if you’re flying high or low
there really isn’t much that you can do
but here’s my tip on how to get along
it’s knowing when to let the small things go.

Good Mourning

The somber sepulcher
was vexed by a vulture
convinced that his crassness was actually culture,
a case correspondent
on if the respondent
is driving up daisies or dwelling despondent.

Biblical Proportions

The rooms are endless in Our Father’s home
as is the substance of the Holy Ghost
Eternity rests in a finite tome
and those that ask the least will get the most.

Moving

I scout the dancefloor with a glance
to see if I can find
a spot where our two hearts can dance
seductively combined
I mull why music and romance
are tightly intertwined
until her rhythm sparks a trance
that captivates my mind.

Heavy

Fleet of foot and light of heart
my youthful days were so carefree
but then I watched the curtains part
for the epic of humanity

aware I'd be forever guaged
by every other glaring eye
that found itself as tightly caged,
resigned to ever pry

I felt my stride become impaired
my veins transferring lead
it seemed that no one truly cared
despite what they had said.

Fleet of foot and light of heart
my youthful days were so carefree
until the inauspicious start
of doubt inside of me.

Establishment

A humble temple can contain
more than mansions of the vain
and structure doesn’t always define
the hearth we worship as divine.

Not Working

When entitlements begin
people grow an extra hand
and a bigger grin
acquiring that top name brand
without spending a single dime
while shameful taxes climb.

I know I go to work each day
whether I want to or not
I have these things called bills to pay
and it seems that I have a lot
so why should I and others too
have to pay the takers due?

Fossil Fuel

As vital resources grow more and more scant
I’ve got to dig deeper to find
the energy needed, but boy if I can’t
reserves may have been over-mined.
