The blue jay blares it’s piercing note
A cardinal croons a hymn
The robin soon will be remote
On a wayward winter whim
The geese are forming in a V
And heading out due south
A grackle scrounges greedily
To fill it’s squawking mouth
The falcon stoically remains
Unflapped and seeks some prey
A mourning dove’s bravado wanes
As gray as this fall day
A flock of pigeons swoop and dive
As seagulls glide, so free
I feel their need to live and thrive
Seductive as the sea.
