All right now, this poem has me thinking. I am interpreting it as being about the present flu season when germs are lurking everywhere! Options ARE scant for avoiding them. Smiles.
I thought the same as Mary, but suspect you have a deeper meaning here too. To do or die, options scant - well that's more about life and choices to me.
Thinking of the present 'rounds' of bugs and other weird things, then I think you are writing about them... What to do, how to avoid and how to manage to get over and to live...
Love that first stanza
ReplyDelete"Germ on a slide
right on the verge
anxious to hide
fighting the urge"

ReplyDeleteI read this as about being exposed when all the time wanting to hide while being prodded, poked and examined.
ReplyDeleteI don't like being in the limelight, much preferring to hide away, hence my reading of your poem, Bob.
That germ on a slide can be portentous - future health or wellness depending on the results. I relate to this very much these days.

Roll on the season of sunny days!!!
Eileen:)
'options are scant'...oh how true. Nice rhyming scheme as well.
ReplyDeleteAs a biology major, you had me a germ on a slide! Very clever wording as always :-)
ReplyDeleteYour choice of end rhyme continues to impress. I loved the pairing of "scant" with "extant." Awesomely put.
ReplyDeleteUnconsciously I guess I was thinking about the flu because everyone in the family had it, but really it's about the constant struggle to survive.
ReplyDeletewow--loving that ending
