It’s no surprise
what’s on the rise
to flee the lies
they choose demise
with pills or knives
or messy dives
self-pity thrives
on taking lives;
perhaps despair
would never flare
with someone there
to show they care—
if signals shine
that chill your spine
don’t say “You’re fine!”
proffer a line.
indeed a sad state of affairs.
ReplyDeleteThe duality of your final line fascinates me. 'line' could have two meanings; a line in the sense of a 'lifeline' or rope... or a line in the sense of a statement or suggestion, as in offering an attractive woman a 'line'. Depending on which the reader chooses, it takes on a unique solution, I think.
ReplyDeleteA think-piece, for sure. Thanks...
It really gets my mind moving.
ReplyDeleteSorry for such a bummer on V-day but I heard on the news this AM that suicide is an epidemic, big surprise.
ReplyDeleteps-Noah this was partly inspired by your poem 'Floatation Devices'
i liked the obviousness in the lines "to flee the lies
ReplyDeletethey choose demise"...could connect them to that piece of emotion of my heart i could never pen down. everyone needs help once in a while!!!
