He contemplates her nascent grave
uncertain why he came,
it’s much too late to try and save
himself this fitting shame,
although they lived a block apart
the chasm seemed like miles,
as granite from his distant heart
obstructed likely aisles;
she made her choice so long ago
to let the spirits win,
the only Mom he’ll ever know
was gone before his sin.
This is beautiful and sad but more than that it reminds me of how unconditional a Mother's love is. They love and forgive their children no matter what.
ReplyDeleteNice (but unfortunate) tale. I was wondering who the other person was and was taken by surprise to find out it was a mother. I think this made it a nore powerful and personal revelation. I guess we could all look back and think we took our mums for granted at some time.

Hi Shirley, I'm sure that is true and we are all better off for it. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteHey Glenn, well it's not always easy to look beyond our own expectations of people. Thanks to you too.
