Days are short
Time is too
Of great import?
To start anew

For every dawn
Is such a gift
Before we’re drawn
Across the rift.

Chill

Is global warming such a bad thing;
To go outside and not feel the sting
Of air that takes your breath away?
Well I, for one, hope it’s here to stay
And no new tax will ever bring
Relief, so knock it off, today!

Preoccupied

I’ve stuttered the insane
And muttered the profane
And uttered words without a clue
That caused another pain

I’ve sputtered in the mire
And shuttered up desire
And buttered bread for people who
Would rather I retire

I've cluttered my own mind
And fluttered for a dime
And puttered (quite distracted) through
My time in search of rhyme.

Veto

Those who contribute the least
Get the most
Those who worship the beast
Curse the ghost
Those who coddle the weak
Are replaced
Those who manage the meek
Lie straight faced
We who relish the facts
Must reject
The vile and traitorous acts
Of the elect.

Cut Down to Size

I sliced my knuckle
Trimming some pork
And had to chuckle
I’m such a dork

And I won’t grumble
If I do it once more
But humbly mumble
That’s what glasses are for.

Perishable

Once you try spice
You may understand
A mild life is nice
But ultimately bland—

Proceed to drink wine
Till it runs down your chin

With the excess of sin—

The buzz is about why
When it should be snow

I threw some crusts upon the grass
A cardinal and blue jay broke their fast

Your cue careens, then it drops

Our memories used to be tangible
With albums of photos and such
And now everything is digital
Deleted with one careless touch,
Is anything we see or feel
Even virtually real
Or simply space they will reclaim

We can’t be cohesive
Without the adhesive
Called love to strengthen the bond

But prideful resentment
Prevents true attachment
A mess that we must move beyond.

When cooking up lies
You have to stay cool
Or tuna surprise
YOU get served fool!

Some of these nuts, if they worked for me
Would not be employed very long
But we just allow them to spout each decree
As they steadily stifle the throng,
The severance for traitors? A tall sturdy tree
And a rope that is equally strong.

Can you get your fill of good will?
Not if your heart is beating still
For unconditional love is like
Sweet wine you gladly swill
But as with most things for which we wait
It flows the more we reciprocate.

The tired sun falls behind
In its race across the sky
Subtle reds and somber purples
Dance before your eyes

Soon an orb of silvery white
Is borne unto the heavens
Darkness swallows its liquid glow

are those
who feed on woes,
that charge for heat
and pray it snows,
that strip the meek
then sell the bones
and snidely tell us,
So it goes.

WE
are they
on whom THEY prey
that hope for grace
when we can’t pay,
that watch our dreams
get worn away,
it’s time to say
WE won’t obey!
