Don’t help others begrudgingly
Life is not a quest for glee
It’s more about the deeds you do
That grant another dignity
And if you feel you’ve suffered loss
Or you’ve been forced to toss
Your dreams, remember someone who
Gave much more on the cross.

Touchy
I’ve always wondered why
I was born to be
A slave until I die
Fooled to think I’m free
And even when I lost
A portion of the chains
I realized the cost
Was all my token gains
I struggle to accept
The lies routinely fed
By demons so inept
Integrity is dead
And still I dread the sting
From which I’m never safe
For scars don’t seem to bring
Relief where shackles chafe.

Comeuppance
THEY control the message but YOU control your mind
So never go all-in on what THEY say
Denial of the obvious means that you’re not only blind
But YOU deserve whatever comes your way.

Pussyfoot
The worries of the world are vast
But never fear what doesn’t last
For one day all will cease to be
Including even you and me
Resist becoming rattled by
The tragedies and trials that try
Even those whose faith is deep
We all will laugh, we all must weep
Remember to be graceful when
You’re dancing in the lion’s den
Step lightly if you seek to sway
The Beast from pouncing on it’s prey.

For those that seek a solace seldom seen
Surrender to the snowfall; it’s serene
In a surprising way, the silence so intense
As swirling crystals saturate every single sense
With silvery assurances that mask the sordid soil
From shameful shams of selfishness at which we sadly toil.

Immaterial
Jumbled bones
Tumbled stones
Defended land
No one owns
Haughty fools
Created rules
Posts were manned
By human tools
Epochs wane
Negating gain
And here we stand
Where ghosts remain.

Merging
The highway slithered out of sight
I upped acceleration
We marveled at momentum’s might
Through every undulation
It seemed a perfect day to coast
And mull my destination
While yielding to the Holy Ghost
For signs of our salvation.

At this site I have built
Do they feel no guilt?
Please do me a favor and scram!

Retread
Looking back through years that seem to shrink
Into the blur of one biopic blink,
And as my eyelids start to part anew
Will I actually ever see anything through
Or will I simply (slow and steady) sink
Instead of drifting, like I always do.

Uncut
A two-edged sword is perilous
If you don’t have the arm
To wield and not be dangerous
To those you mustn’t harm
While those that have a rigid sole
Despite what they prefer
Will sometimes walk with less control
Unsure when bumps occur
A tale without some twists and turns
Can sometimes entertain
But a true experience seeker yearns
For a plot they can’t explain.

Kiss of Spring
The blades are cut
That frozen rut
Is finally behind us
Fresh leaves expand
Across the land
And breezily remind us
It’s time to bloom
And shed the gloom
Our tulips red and vibrant.

Accept? □Y □N
Your faith must be steady
Your heart filled with love
If you wish to be ready
The terms of agreement
(like heaven above)
Require commitment.

Requiem
Beside the sanguine flicker
Of a filament designed
To look just like a candle
A mourning friend will find
The vessel of somebody
They were fortunate to know
As impotent as anyone
Whose time has come to go
Between the floral tributes
And a hope inducing hymn
We pray to God in heaven
That mercy is His whim.

Flurry
I sat there thinking life unfair
As gentle snow fell down
While she was at the precipice of death
Then suddenly I could swear
I saw her in her gown
A spirit who had gasped her final breath
I wondered if she knew the way
Across the yawning chasm
That I imagine separates the planes
She disappeared into the gray
A newly formed phantasm
While I conferred respect to her remains.

Settlement
Roots are fine
For those that grow them and their line
But those who drift
Will never feel that subtle shift
In the earth
From staking out a lasting berth
And so it goes
Everyone dwells on their own woes.

Denouement
When seeking pleasure
We seldom measure
How much of our soul is lost
If it satisfies
We live with lies
Regardless of the cost
Until we seek
That shining peak
But find a killer frost.

Platform
What if we ever actually received
A signal, then sought the senders to find
Their heartless tech was ill conceived
And doomed them, much like humankind;
Would nihilists still be so staunch
To justify another launch?

Throwback
“There’s a lot going on in the world.”
He quipped as he cattishly curled
Upon the couch and unfurled
A booklet of archaic prose
His weary mind purposely chose
It’s content a pleasant repose
When modern day madmen have mauled
The truth so much progress is stalled
A simpler time is recalled
With hope that we somehow achieve
A future where we learn to weave
Our dreams with facts all can believe.

Hairy
The street light has bangs
It’s icy hair hangs
It seems overnight that it grew
The late winter snows
Were melted, refroze
Becoming one cool looking do.

Panorama
I love stargazing on a winter night
When the air is cold and the stars are bright
The cosmic scenery so amazing
On a winter night I love stargazing
Beneath the covers it’s nice and warm
Despite this never ending storm
As turbulent as tragic lovers,
It’s nice and warm beneath the covers.
The gift of sight is our reward
With reverence looking heavenward.
Is our reward the gift of sight?
I love stargazing on a winter night.

Transparency
All your affectation means so little
Yeah, glass is hard as hell, but also brittle
So next time you decide to act this tough
Remember, I can see right through your bluff.

Censure
How many signs should they erect
How much direction do you expect
Be cognizant of who they are
It’s not who you elect
Remember that the word campaign
Refers to war that’s waged to gain
The upper hand when classes spar
Their weapons, cold disdain
And lies deployed to legislate
Lethargic sheep to stay sedate.
Despite the likely scar
We must retaliate!

Whet Dream
These simple schemes
Belie my dreams
Of crafting something heretofore unknown
I have the will
But doubt my skill
So I shall humbly try my best to hone.

Tenfold
You always make my smile grow
Even when I’m stressed by strife
And it seems kind of weird
That a decade disappeared
But I just want you to know
How much you have enriched my life.

Believe it or Not
When men choose not to believe in God,
they do not thereafter believe in nothing,
they then become capable of believing in anything.
G.K. Chesterton
The glowing box of falsehood with a click
Confirms the fears of those who buy the shtick
By channeling more evil than they show
Contaminating everything we know
If only everyone would stop and think
Why they tell us ‘binge without a blink’
Perhaps we’d seek a different truth instead
Like He who saved us through the blood He shed.

Running of the Bull
I find myself feeling a yen
To let the words run once again
Something forcefully held
Can only be quelled
So long before the old pen
Becomes a circular rut
Just open the gate if it’s shut
They long to be freed
And loudly stampede
Across the plains that abut
The woods that encircle a pond
Caressing each flower and frond
With ringlets of rhyme
To echo through time
And all of creation beyond.

Unruly
They’ve polarized the simpletons
With lies so deftly spun
That one side thinks the other lost
While theirs has somehow won
Dependency upon deceit
Creating addicts who
Become defunct unless the anchors
Tell them what to do
But grounds we share will never be
Accessible again
If we don’t heed the Golden Rule
And not the tales of men.

Broadening
Watching icicles grow
Is really quite a show
The drips that never drop
Just hit bottom and stop
And for a beat dissect
The sunlight to reflect
Prismatic hearts so bold
You almost forget the cold

The drips that never drop
Just hit bottom and stop
And for a beat dissect
The sunlight to reflect
Prismatic hearts so bold
You almost forget the cold

Precognition
A prison you can flee
Isn’t always plain to see
But I could feel the stifling restraint
The crony in her cage
At last released my rage
Pretending to be some unbiased saint
I cursed, she went deadpan
It echoed in her can
And footsteps started scurrying my way
I bolted out the door
Defiance streaming from each pore
Then woke up to begin another day.

Augment
Time goes round
We are bound
By the cycle it seems
And forlorn dreams
We’ll never nab
Our lives so drab
Each tick we see
Eternity
Adroitly dance
Another chance
(though relative)
To truly live.
