Making the Cut

Creative thoughts are lost among
the droning drowning din
of battle to ascend a rung
and rake the bennies in

but every now and then I get
a chance to sit and jot
the few words that I don't forget
while fighting for that spot

a grizzled veteran of war
I carry on despite
the code of conduct I deplore
ignoring flags of white

my fuel is running way too low
to fall behind the line
it's hard to overcome a foe
that savors blood like wine.

Game Face

I can't remember if I forgot
I don't have much but it's alot
I may get free but probably not
another verse? It's worth a shot

I try my best (despite this fear
that nothing I do matters here)
to always smile and appear
if not upbeat then cavalier.

Warning

Some will go fast, some will go slow
we all have limits how far we'll go
but despite the signs and painted lines
there will always be those who risk the fines.

Bomb

The spotlight morning sun
made him dream of a home run
so he could finally ditch his wretched dump
but then he shook his head
each night approaching bed
aware that he had just advanced his slump.

And as he mulled his streak
his hopeful views turned bleak
till one explosive thought caused them to stir:
it doesn't matter how you swing
for such a feat will only bring
you right back to the same old place you were.

Hi all! Well it seems reality has finally intruded enough to end my run of posting something every single day. It was fun while it lasted but my mind has been too weary lately for serious contemplation of any thought for long. But, I won't stop so any readers that want to hang around, please do. I feel my best is yet to come, are you reading me?

Scuttling

Why do people like annoying things
like a plastic gondolier that sings
instead of hearing Nature's song
that soothes exposure to the throng

the sun itself becomes a balm
that helps my mind regain it's calm
I am a crab and it's time I think
to make that crooning nuisance sink!

Martial

That final day of independence
expired without much ado
the army corralled our descendants
and liberty was through

They didn't possess the fortitude
to put up much of a fight
born and bred to be subdued
oppression just seemed right

and now the only holiday
we get to celebrate
is when we are allowed to lay
our lives down for the State.

Inklings

A vortex makes a shadow that the light cannot escape
they swirl across the bottom of the pool in every shape
amoebic blobs whose fluid transformations make it seem
that matter can be malleable like that of which we dream.

Round

Venus and Jupiter, so close again it seems
but really as distant as far away dreams
although from our angle their sequence is such
that one could believe they might actually touch,
celestial seduction, a sky spanning chase
that slips through the fingers of those who need space.

Keep Pushing

Push it down!
is all you hear
when you work upon the line
Push it down!
the leaders jeer
and make our numbers shine
Push it down!
you've got to hide
the sneer upon your lip
Push it down!
the rage inside
that product has to ship.
